Can you count, suckers? I say, the future is ours... if you can count.

Now, look what we have here before us. We got the Harmless Crew sitting next to the McParadigm Boys. We've got the Chuddites right by the Stipian Rangers. Nobody is wasting nobody. That... is a miracle. And miracles is the way things ought to be.

CAN YOU DIG IT?!?!

It's just weird...like all their music from 10 through RA is just nothing like this. They had slow/chill songs, but without going all Winger / Warrant on us. I mean, this number here has that "Heaven Isn't Too Far Away" vibe going on, mixed with some of the power pop of 90's Aerosmith. While I don't really like that kind of music, maybe I'm giving this song a pass because it's Pearl Jam. I'm still not sure quite how to describe it, my first though was "Pearl Jam meets Bon Jovi". I'm still surprised that the band that seemed so against music like this has been delivering songs like "Just Breathe" and "Sirens".

All signs point to me hating this song, this style just isn't my thing. However, I kinda like it. After about 5 listens now, I can confidently say I like it better than "Amongst The Waves". Maybe this is the best of the worst of recent Pearl Jam. My "worst" list includes: ATW, Inside Job, Gone, and really most of Backspacer.
Sirens vortex. Coming for you...

Its mind blowing how much I hated it at first and to where im at with it now. No other PJ song has done that. At this point, this song has brought out the biggest emotional reaction from me than any other song int he past 10 years from them. Both negative and positive emotion...

So thats something. I have wanted pearl jam to make me feel SOMETHING over the last couple albums.

I would definitely say that I like it better than Inside Job, Gone, The Fixer and Just Breathe. ATW has surprisingly been growing on me of late, so I might put it on equal footing with Sirens right now, but Sirens definitely has much more potential as a grower... especially the live version from the video.
I actually should revisit Backspacer. I haven't listened to it since we did a LAL on the old board, like 2 years ago.

I know harmless has been championing ATW lately, so that has gotten me a bit curious to revisit it.

It works very well on dct's championship-winning playlist... but the few that didn't vote for him pointed to ATW as their reason

day 2 with Sirens for me. whew...still a home run.

This song takes me places probably because I have a wife and two young daughters.

I didnt care before you were here
I danced in laughter with the ever after
but all things change
Let this remain

Ed really did a good job all over this one.

Does any one picture Mike looking like this during the guitar solo? Or is it just me?

Yea, the guitar solo is the worst. The fucking tone is total 80's metal and that I cant stand. Could have been so much sexier and prettier...

I think he is also using Digital Delays these days too? Needs to bring back the Boss DM Delay...

you need to get that image out of your head before you can evaluate the song, I think. It has to escape the gravitational pull of the genre.

I think Mike probably pictures Mike looking like this during the solo.

It hasn't improved at all. I think there'll be people looking back at this moment and saying "Yup...that was the final nail in the coffin for me"

I just listened to "Sirens" for the first time. It reminds me of something Mike McCready said in the Single Video Theory documentary >>>

Mike McCready:

"I get afraid of losing that creative energy... where it's like 'where's it going to come from'... am I going to lose it someday... or will I have it for a while and then will it just run out because I've seen that happen to other bands."

When I listen to "Sirens" all I can say is...'Yep Mike, I think you guys lost it.'

I keep flitting from thinking its kinda funny and yeah they do whatever they want fuck it, and feeling dissapointed at this blantant grab for 'ze mainstream' like some childish hipster douchebag. Every article/ documentary is gonna have to go 'pearl jam shunned fame and the mainstream so they could do whatever they wanted, how cool, until 2006ish maybe 2009 when they decided they kind of missed all of it *cue fixer, just breathe, sirens*

And for this being mikes showpiece song, mike isnt doing anything particularly memorable.

Removing the solo from the discussion,...

Black is probably a cheesier song than Sirens. If Black was released today, I feel like the same people complaining about Sirens would be complaining about Black.

Truth is the solo is what really separates the two. I dig the solo, but can see both sides of "that".
