The Dark And The Wicked.

Bertino sure knows how to make a moody horror movie. The sound design is great. The story not so much. Overall, its a decent demon story.

It didn't hit me that hard, I thought it was a little weak on characterization with the female lead and found it hard to follow her motivation in the final scenes. So I'd still slot it behind other films (like Bloody Nose!). But overall it was great.

Anyway, for Strat:

Five Recent Films I Liked
Another Round
Bloody Nose, Empty Pockets
Possessor
Sound of Metal
She Dies Tomorrow

Five I'm Looking Forward To and Which Are Currently Streaming
Bacurau
Beanpole
Black Bear
Driveways
Scheme Birds

Like VG, I'm really enjoying the offerings right now, there's so much stuff that's either just released or just came on my radar through end-of-year lists.

How do you come about getting excited for so many movies? Do you have a source for recommendations?

A mix of friends and social networks I guess? I'll see movies recommended on here by people I trust, I have a lot of friends who either work in or study film, I'm not a film scholar myself but I teach films a lot, my wife worked in Hollywood for ten years before becoming a writer. So it all adds up and gives me a list of outlets, names, etc. to keep track of.

i get that sure. I thought her motivation to keep doing it was to escape from her family. She has some doubts but its whats driving her.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

tried to watch Possessor a couple nights ago. Made it over half-way through. I thought it was OK. Nothing great. Seemed kinda amateurish, TBH.
