I hate to agree with Burt, but Trump had NO CLUE people we're going to break into the Capitol. He just cluelessly stokes anger because it gets him attention, and he has never faced the consequences. He won't this time either.

But there was no coup. Maybe he instigated an attack on our blessed sacred institutions or whatever, but the goal of a coup is to take over, not just make some congresspeople work late.

i think he wanted them to riot the capitol, but figured for the election to be overturned he needed senators to vote against him. i dont think he thought his rioters would actually take the government. but he definitely incited them to attack, and took pleasure in attacking.
and i agree that when there is more investigation i think there's a good chance people find out that there was some element of deliberate planning or willful blindness to this that allowed the situation to escalate the way it did.
i also found it peculiar when Trump came back to DC before the Mar-a-Lago NYE party. that was supposed to be his thing. was a reason for that ever made known? it was described as him back ' a day early'. what a day to be early . New year's eve? it was thousand dollar entry tickets. anyways if there is a conspiracy here it wouldnt surprise me that him coming back early to help usher the plan along was part of it. would need to be something pretty important to pull him back from mar-a-lago a day 'early' when that day is New Year's. but maybe i am missing something

I tend to agree. The Dept of Defence/Pentagon appointments after the election were weird but seem to have allowed a degree of inaction as far as response to the Capitol breach goes.
I think Trump had some bigger plans and that he was taking advice on what may work in his favour, but in typical Trump fashion he managed to just fuck it all up.
I also wouldn't put it past him to have just wanted to fuck shit up for the sake of it, kinda hoping that if enough people are seen as being angry enough then Pence/Congress may act to announce his second term.
He really has zero understanding of the actual workings of government. I honestly believe he thought it could work, he just had no actual plan to do it other than chaos.
