I also kinda cringe during the "but all things change" part when his voice cracks.

I those lines. Because it's something he rarely does it really draws attention but without it that section would start feeling repetitive.

I always cringe when singers reach too far beyond their range and strain I guess, it's not just Ed. I hate when Patterson Hood tries to sing falsetto too.

Yeah it's not technically great - however, he's in far better form on this record than Backspacer and without the annoying flourishes.

I find it to be a highlight.

This falsetto is absolutely insignificant to some of Ed's worst vocal moments. Not even comparable. He does it fine.

I'm pretty sure autotune is involved somewhere, though. In the wavering 'Iiiii' at the start, for example. But meh, they'd have used it on Ten if it had been available (or, if it was, good enough quality).

The video version has the same vocal superimposed. They can intersperse that live vocal with studio vocal parts, and that's what they do here.

Disclaimer: I have nothing invested in reviews of this song, be they positive or negative. Just putting this here for the heck of it. Guess I found it a bit surprising that a piece this long was written about just this one song.

I think they autotune on software after something's recorded, so it's post-recording at least. It's part of that cleaning-up.
