Spoken-word sections in songs
Spoken-word sections are very divisive. I want to talk about the good, the bad, and the just plain weird.
I'll start it off with arguably the kings of the spoken-word section:

The single version of Pulp's "Disco 2000" has a great spoken-word section in the bridge that I wish was on the album version

If you're the kind of person who likes a song as cheesy and ridiculous as "Sugar Baby Love," then chances are you're also the kind of person who will love the gimcrackery of its spoken-word section:

Re: Spoken-word sections in songs
What about those sections of boy band songs where they stop singing and usually the one guy that isn't good enough to sing a solo does that whisper-rap thing? Like "hey girl you know you're a hottie, why don't you let me come and rock that body"? Does that count or is that poorly executed white boy rap?

I'll try to find an example. Not something I listen to regularly but this was always something that stood out when I saw boy bands on tv performances, etc.Jorge wrote:Can you post an example of this?E.H. David Lee Roth is the king of spoken word.
Van Halen - Everybody Wants Some, starting at 3:27
Van Halen - Mean Streets, starting at 3:20
David Lee Roth - Yankee Rose

does Living Colour's sampling of JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you" in Cult of Personality count?
