I love Pinkerton. Had no idea there were more songs. Nice.
If you mean why doesn't their record company just reject their album I don't think record companies operate that way anymore. Especially with a big band like Weezer. I'm guessing the record label knew what they were getting into(according to wikipedia Weezer has changed record labels a few times) and are just happy with a new quirky video that might become popular.

Disagree with that, but I also disagree that Weezer sounds anything like a Pixies album.
Now Rubberneck on the other hand...
what songs on Rubberneck sound like the Pixies outside of Tyler/Where is My Mind? i never even found those two songs to be that similar outside of the riff. Where is My Mind sounds like its about being stoned, the guy singing Tyler literally sounds like a murderer. completely different songs.
the All My Favorite Songs Are Sad song is horrendous. it sounds like weezer coving whoever the worst pop band is at the moment. i dont like shitting on weezer b/c i still really love blue and pinkerton and probably some of the green album, but this is like legendarily bad.

:shrugs:
No Toadies song outside of Tyler sounds exactly like a Pixies song, per se. Just...same vibe. They've just always had the same intangibles to my ears. It's in the bass and the energy. Nothing specific. Probably more accurate to say the Toadies sound like Nirvana on one of their most Pixies-influenced tangents. Dark and brooding, but also inherently punk.
