Lol I do not have kids and never will. However, that does not mean I don't see up close what is going on with kids in underserved districts with this remote and blended nonsense. I also don't see why I have to source everything to back my position up when it's basically common sense. If you're interested though there is reading out there that basically quantifies the damage we are doing to kids in lost lifetime earnings among many other things. The Las Vegas suicide stuff has been in the news. Just seek it out.
I actually feel sorry for parents with school aged children because this is going to be a drag on development that is essentially permanent and unfixable at best. Worst case is many kids are just going to end up dropping out after falling behind.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
My wife and I were worried when our daughter’s high school (private) decided to offer virtual and in person starting last fall. They had procedures in place in regards to always wearing masks on campus, cleaning, pods during lunch so they knew who sat with who in case of outbreaks, etc.
It turns out it’s worked fairly well. There was one two week all virtual period to stop an outbreak in one of the boys sports teams, but other than that, a few cases among students and teachers that did not result from in school transmission.
So our daughter so far has had a fairly normal school year.
Reading that article a few pages back, I can’t believe teachers wouldn’t want to go back to school even when vaccinated. There’s no way kids will be approved for vaccines by the fall.
A lot of us that have been working normal hours and going into work and being around others would love the opportunity to get the vaccine and keep working. I hope this teachers union is an isolated issue and doesn’t represent the entirety of the nation’s teachers.

Do what you gotta do. People aren't taking this issue seriously enough. Your kids are definitely going to have a leg up on their peers.blueviper wrote:Before you think I have money to pay for it, I use my tax return and cash out vacation every yearverb_to_trust wrote:God bless your private school. I do think you’ve made some good points about kids needing that in person learning experience. I don’t see how parents would not get upset if teachers got vaccinated and still didn’t want to start up in person learning. Adults at school vaccinated plus kids with a generally low level of transmission seem like it would work.

So they spent 7 hours talking about it and couldn't at least come up with new names?

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That’s been roughly our experience as well (young kids though). One 10 day shutdown with “show a PCR test in the last five days to be allowed back”. But that is all based on the fact we can afford it... most cannot. The public school teachers in my area are making a good faith effort at online learning and I won’t like at them for what is an unprecedented situation, but if private school teachers can do it every day, public schools should be able to have hybrid in person class by teachers under 40 with kids staggered every other day (or every other full week).blueviper wrote:My wife and I were worried when our daughter’s high school (private) decided to offer virtual and in person starting last fall. Re: Anybody want a Corona?
This just makes no sense to me. Obviously 2020 was rough on school kids and their education, but it was rough for most people. I suppose some kids at the margins (or in certain districts) suffer some permanent issues, but to suggest a generation of kids is permanently scarred by an unfixable problem? I don't buy that. Seems a bit dramatic, especially given what other generations have lived through.verb_to_trust wrote: I actually feel sorry for parents with school aged children because this is going to be a drag on development that is essentially permanent and unfixable at best.

I think many past generations have been pretty fucked up by the circumstances of their childhood.Rob wrote:This just makes no sense to me. Think I’m going to try being kind to everyone a chance.
