with all the hype this movie was getting i thought it would be a really smart and scary movie.
Its was boring and predictable...the only good thing was Barbara Crampton was in it.

I liked it. Moved at it's own pace and takes a little bit to get going but the story gets more interesting as it goes along. There's a little melodrama/action in the last 20 minutes but otherwise it's the kind of movie that keeps you entertained without too much going on. Has a Tom Sawyer/Huckleberry Finn vibe to it.
The title character is the type that McConaughey excells at playing and there's a few name actors in smaller roles. The teen actor who has the main role is really good too; he's in nearly every scene so he has to be able to carry the movie. Turns out it's his second movie, his first was as the youngest son in Tree of Life. And he's got a new one coming out with Nicholas Cage, Joe, that's already getting a bit of a critical buzz. This Tye Sheridan kid maybe someone to watch.

It doesn't pretend to be an artsy movie or anything like that, right? I want to see it, but anything related to Teri Gross makes me feel icky. Biff, thanks for giving us a taste.

World War Z. Kinda terrible. I liked the plane sequence, but that was about it. It was like a bad version of 28 Days Later. I'm a huge David Morse fan and I have to think that his part was a lot bigger in the original version of the film. The ending was all sorts of awful.

I'll have to watch it again. But yeah Mud was shot and then swam over to Sam Shepard's house across the river, and Shepard motered hiim out to sea and probably to some exotic country. It made sense to leave it ambiguous to the rest of the characters, because the movie is littered with discussions about myth & legends, and now Mud has turned into a one of those real life legends. He is now a folk tale (is he dead or alive, his body was never found).
In an unapologetically honest & brutal world where parental divorce & uncertainity loom over a young adolescent's life, a perpetual state of mystery is the best medicine. Because then nothing is certain in a cruel world. Because 'what if' ?

Some movies benefit from ambiguous endings. Some need to end in tragedy. And some movies are best served by a happy ending. I loved that Mud had a happy ending for that character, maybe because it took so long to learn whether or not he was actually a good, trustworthy person.
