yeah, I mean, Screech (Diamond) was cool. He was the court jester. Much like Urkel, his character became more exaggerated over time, though Urkel had a catchphrase, and played off Carl well. I can't remember if Screech had a catchphrase or not. I highly doubt people were tuning in to see what hijinx Screech would get into versus seeing one of the aforementioned girls.
People did tune into Family Matters to watch Urkel be loveable, goofy, and occasionally get knocked in the head to turn into Stefan.
Edit: People tuned into SBTB for zach, AC, and the girls.

I remember seeing they guys interviewed together on MTV or whatever back in the early 90s. Mark Paul & Mario both came across as full of themselves while Dustin seemed like just a goofy tv kid happy to be there.

Watched the first two eps of season 2. Great so far. Very nice Screech tribute at the end of the first episode. I can’t get over how genuinely funny this show is.
