Natural cane sugar is a blessing, though. One of the fondest memories I have of childhood is when we'd go visit my dad's side of the family in Maurice, Louisiana during sugar harvest. Every street in town would be littered with sugar cane stalks that fell off the trucks on the way to wherever. We'd all go out with a grocery bag and collect as many as we could then chew on them the whole ride back to Texas.
