That’s a good question for all of us. I seriously doubt that it would be controversial if an actor was fired for posting a racist diatribe with a hideous slur in it on facebook. Or retweeted multiple Nazi-favoring Holocaust memes. Would anyone insist that a trans small business owner has an obligation to maintain the employment of a person who posts dehumanizing things about trans people online?

The reality is, everyone understands that a social media ‘bridge too far’ does exist. This is, and has always been, just a debate over where that bridge ought to be placed.

I don’t have a strong opinion on this firing. I do have contempt for the intensity of the reaction. People get fired for social media posts all the time. Her being a social media conservative should have no bearing on the matter. It doesn’t for me. I’m a social liberal, and her views are likely the opposite of mine in a large number of cases. However, if you don’t draw the line for your opposition, be prepared for it to come bite you in the ass, the next time someone you fully agree with gets fired for posting their political opinion.
