I think I'd rather live in a society where one could share controversial views on a public platform without worrying about losing your job because your boss with the god complex decided it was wrong and convinced the idiot masses to give him the power to control everyone's lives because they are scared of beep/bop/boop. Crazy, I know.

That’s a good question for all of us. I seriously doubt that it would be controversial if an actor was fired for posting a racist diatribe with a hideous slur in it on facebook. Or retweeted multiple Nazi-favoring Holocaust memes. Would anyone insist that a trans small business owner has an obligation to maintain the employment of a person who posts dehumanizing things about trans people online?

The reality is, everyone understands that a social media ‘bridge too far’ does exist. This is, and has always been, just a debate over where that bridge ought to be placed.

I don’t have a strong opinion on this firing. I do have contempt for the intensity of the reaction. People get fired for social media posts all the time. But then sometimes it happens to a public sphere conservative, and the BurtReynolds of the world start running around with their hands in the air yelling “it could happen to you.“ Yeah, no shit it could happen to me. Every HR department I’ve ever worked for has made sure to let me know that. It’s included in my annual fit for duty training.

Disney grinds up masses of low wage workers and happily ditches them during a pandemic. But they fire an actress for bumming out fans of the franchise she works on, and suddenly it’s “we have to stand up to the corporation for the little people.”

Apparently the Burt Reynolds of the world doesn't care that Disney grinds up masses of low wage workers and happily ditches them during a pandemic.

I wonder what the Dimes of the world think about that.

Post examples of people being fired for tweeting positive views on trans, BLM, feminism, Biden and I'll have the exact same outrage.

Her being a social media conservative should have no bearing on the matter. It doesn’t for me. I’m a social liberal, and her views are likely the opposite of mine in a large number of cases. However, if you don’t draw the line for your opposition, be prepared for it to come bite you in the ass, the next time someone you fully agree with gets fired for posting their political opinion.

Carano has herself stated she is not anti-LGBTQ+, and has not posted anything racist, or something on that level.
