Well, there are a bunch of kids that no one can find. :search:
B, I don't know where two of my kids are right now.

Agreed. And maybe, just maybe, the cultural conservatives should think about why their views are becoming more unpopular over time.

I'm all for protecting speech/people, but at some point you have to take a break from playing victim and make your ideology great again (if you want to be a winner!).
You are nearly contradicting yourself when you say minority voices should be heard but think that a majority voice has more merit simply because more people agree.

The view that one shouldn't be fired over a holocaust comparison is a minority opinion? It's not even close to a minority opinion. It's just what a tiny minority of ultra powerful people decided was wrong this week.

Whether a voice is a minority or not is irrelevant anyway.
I think you’ve made some good points in this thread. Half rootin for ya. I’m just saying that cultural conservatism today is mostly about contempt for the left, and therefore fighting these kind of battles. In order to defend this actress I assume you need some moral authority? I can’t understand why conservatives aren’t focused on rebuilding that, so maybe one day they can make these arguments. You point your finger at the left but Trump tried to cancel anything in his way, including Twitter itself. And he is somehow the party & activist base.

What a fun thread.

A lot of people arguing against Burt for a lot of reasons, but after working my way through these pages I think that Trag is doing the best job at explaining why it's actually not a big deal that Gina Corona isn't on the Mandalorian anymore.

She's got every right (and platform) to say what she wants, and a business has every right to protect their assets. That really should be it. The culture war talk is interesting, and I do side with Burt in the sense that cancel culture shouldn't go down easy in a free society, but most of us are adult enough to feel this while still accepting the rules of our bosses and our companies. Gina C. just so happened to work for a pretty big company while tweeting whatever/who cares to a very, very large audience.

Not a pro but I’d take a swing and say it’s a really bad idea to put kids in them and it’ll come back to haunt anyone or any government that does

Not seeing a lot of thought for the other people who work on this production, who absolutely have a say in their work environment and who they have to come to set with. Film production is by nature an intimate process in which you have to spend a lot of time with your co-stars/crew, and I could see them (understandably) not wanting to work with Carano any more. Pedro Pascal has a Trans sister and previously had to speak with Carano and educate her about why the beep/boop thing was offensive to many. The crew might not want to work closely with someone who is pointedly anti-mask and has seemed to imply that the virus is a hoax. Would you want to do the makeup of someone who doesn't hold your health as a priority? I wouldn't, I'd probably walk.

Also, Carano was what's known as a "persona" casting. The Mandalorian, as an episodic show, is full of these. Most of the cast/guest stars are heavily based on their persona, from Giancarlo Esposito ("fuck, it's that evil guy from Breaking Bad") to Timothy Olyphant ("hey, it's the sheriff!!!"). Gina Carano depended on this more than any other character on the show, basically being wholly dependent on her persona as "actual real-life fighter." You can see how this becomes a problem for the production when her persona becomes "bigot" and "anti-mask dumbass." It doesn't serve the show, and becomes a negative for the production and fans. And yeah, sometimes this really sucks. Britney Spears has had to battle her persona becoming "crazy person" for the last decade. But largely, Carano did this to herself. People were more willing to ease up on the Corona conspiracy shit in April, but now almost 500,000 Americans are dead. It's not really funny anymore.

She basically had a good thing going and then stick-in-spokes'd herself.

Good points. Not only that but Favreau did plead her case when this initially kicked off last year. Lucasfilm wanted her gone. He went to bat for her and now this. That shit matters in Hollywood and this industry. That’s splash back on him as well as her.

I’m of the view she knew well what she was doing and was using the new following and platform for exactly this end. Why else keep doing it after several calls to stop and thinking her career worth sa rificing in order to appear a martyr to a pretty much doomed cause?

My pal reckons she’s back on steroids and that’s made her crazy and that’ll be her defence when she eventually snaps out of it and realises their absolute shit hole she’s made for herself.

I am not so sure.

Isn't this lady filthy rich regardless of being cast on a little kids superhero show? I'm sure she doesn't give a fuck. If she did, she would have kept her mouth shut.
