I will soon enough. And, I guess I want to see it blow up, if only for the band. I suppose that is what they are hoping for and all.broken iris wrote:Leave Sirens Alone!15showsandcounting wrote:Phew. Sirens will slow to a crawl. Hopefully.EJ wrote:Seems like a lot of views in only a few days.

If I hated this song, I really wouldn't want it to be successful at all. I'm not sure I want this band better known for this than something like MYM.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
There's nothing wrong with this song. It doesn't matter if it's not what they used to do, it still sounds like Pearl Jam enough....just pay attention
Some people are going to hate it....oh fucking well
I'm a die hard fan of the 93' - 98' era, and I still find myself going back to this song the most out of the 5 I've heard. Is it the best thing ever...of course not, but it's damn good on my ears, as well as many others. 3 yrs from now people will hold this song much higher than now.....even the one's who "Make fun" of it

I stopped wanting them to be more popular at Last Kiss.harmless wrote:If I hated this song, I really wouldn't want it to be successful at all. I'm not sure I want this band better known for this than something like MYM.

I'm not at all convinced this is true. Writing a song that in theory could be a hit doesn't mean someone is trying to write a hit.15showsandcounting wrote:I will soon enough. Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
For all that I like the song, I think that the worst thing about this band since 2006 is that it's trying to reverse their gradual decline in mainstream popularity, which Ed now calls "self-sabotage." All of this stuff -- the slick videos, the increasingly more commercial songs, etc. -- is all part of that new final grab for stardom, in my opinion. I'm hoping this grab doesn't actually work for the band, they eventually realise it's not working, and remember their immediate cult fanbase that don't really want them to be chasing Beliebers. I for one think they have every right to do this all they want to, but it's thoroughly uncomfortable being a PJ fan these days, I can say that.Jaeti wrote:I'm not at all convinced this is true. Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
I guess I've been "uncomfortable" being a fan since, say, 2003 when I saw six shows and friends couldn't imagine why I'd go see one, let alone half a dozen. Then S/T to Backspacer was my PJ-apologist phase, but these new songs are better. Different, I guess, but they've been heading this way for six years now and also seem to have finally figured out how to be what they are now. That's kind of a muddy statement, I realize, but I'm much more okay with this iteration than I have been with the previous two.

Gotta say, it's weird to see Pearl Jam with the #3 single on iTunes. Right between Britney Spears and Katy Perry
But fuck it, good on them, I still really like the song.

so did the black comparisons come from the end of the song? "ah ah, oh oh"? that has nothing on "do do do do do do do.

Come on guys. Point me to a band that hasn't had at least one single worse than this song, much less at 23 years into their career. I am neutral on the song, but the drama is getting played out.15showsandcounting wrote:harmless wrote: but it's thoroughly uncomfortable being a PJ fan these days, I can say that.![]()

Fair enough. iTunes via my computer here at work says #80, but whatever, I hope yours is right.Dugg wrote:That's what it shows on my iPad.Jaeti wrote:Are they, though?
