This was my list but a few notes: the Grateful Dead probably moves up to # 3, 4, or 5 on this list depending on my mood. The Beatles ended up way higher than I anticipated and is on the strength of Help! through their last album (either one whether you go by release date or record date). Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is reflective of those albums and his solo albums combined. There are always a lot of bands you leave out.

Actually, no! I promise. I am interested to play with the rankings and do things like: what would the top 20 be if it were only made up of bands that are still active? Who are the top 20 female artists? Who are the top 20 artists that are dead? etc.
