Re: Anybody want a Corona?
My firm had a christmas luncheon. No more than 10 employees total. One person was infected and didn't know it. The people that wore masks that day didn't contract it, the ones that didn't, did. One of them is dead now. There are RMers with parents in the hospital with COVID right now, or other loved ones. Even if the masks don't work 100% but they do slow the spread even 10%, how can you run around here with your internet medical degree spouting this shit? Have some respect dude, if not for yourself then for others. Jesus Christ.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
If this is your takeaway after 11 months, I don't know what to tell you. Being exposed to the virus puts you at risk for being infected, yes. And the more (and longer) you're exposed, the greater the risk. Masks don't prevent all spread, they slow it. Even the Trump admin understood this (even if the man himself didn't).verb_to_trust wrote:Exposure is exposure when it comes to this virus. Isn't it obvious by now?

Verb's brain is broken. No matter how many times it's explained to him it will never sink in.

Masks don't work and I only care about the vaccine to get public health weirdos off my back and to hang out with my parents. I've already had the Pfizer shot.

Cool link all the peer reviewed studies stating explicitly that masks protect you.The Argonaut wrote:Viral load matters, duhverb_to_trust wrote:Exposure is exposure when it comes to this virus. Isn't it obvious by now? Or do you really honestly believe politicians when they try to blame the public?

The masks are basically bullshit for the way we use them and the types we're using. (I am not on verb's side on this at all, but they are not the panacea some make them out to be and they are being used incorrectly probably 98% of the time, let's be honest).verb_to_trust wrote:Cool link all the peer reviewed studies stating explicitly that masks protect you.The Argonaut wrote:Viral load matters, duhverb_to_trust wrote:Exposure is exposure when it comes to this virus. I was responding to "exposure is exposure" which is just not true at all. Level of exposure affects how likely you are to contract the virus and how sick you'll get

Does wearing a mask prevent most or some (ANY?) of the viral particles from being spread/launched into the air? If so then I don't understand how you reconcile your "viral load matters" post with the bolded text. The Argonaut wrote:The masks are basically bullshit for the way we use them and the types we're using. Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Look at France. Mask mandates as strict as anywhere in the world. Seemingly no real impact on spread when looking at the numbers. Czech Republic was hailed as mask utopia early in the pandemic, they got hammered.
Davenport Ia and Rock Island Illinois are right across the river from each other and are basically part of a shared city. Vastly different mask rules, same fucking numbers. Illinois side might even have done worse.
Drop the ego and accept that nature fucking owns you.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Wearing a mask when you walk into the restaurant and then taking it off when you sit at your table is not wearing a mask correctly. Wearing a mask that slips under your nose while you walk around the store is incorrect. Wearing a mask that bulges out on the sides is not correct. Wearing a mask in the elevator at work but not in your cubicle for eight hours is incorrect. Wearing the same cotton mask all day which you've touched 1000 times and is soaking wet from your breath is incorrect. Wearing a mask in an Uber when the guy has been driving around maskless for hours is pointless. Hanging out indoors with your friends for three hours, even masked up, is far from ideal. Cotton masks have a limit, and I see people push beyond those limits anytime I go anywhere or do anything. To the point where they are basically useless.Rob wrote:Does wearing a mask prevent most or some (ANY?) of the viral particles from being spread/launched into the air? Using a fresh, clean, mask to get through a brief interaction with another masked person makes a huge difference. But that's not what we use masks for. They would help a lot if we used good masks but didn't ask too much of them. They can only do so much.
