Re: 35. Dance of the Clairvoyants vs. Severed Hand
Severed Hand is fine. I like it. Good bridge and I love the funky riff after the first verse. I like the lyrics. The studio track always felt a little thin to me, but it's pretty good.
Dance of Clarivoyants remains a revelation even a year out. I listen to it constantly (at least two times a week) and I've never gotten tired of it. The moment when the 'stand back when the spirit comes' section feels surprising any time. I love this song.

Dance takes this one quite easily. It's not that Severed Hand isn't a good song, it's that Dance is a true all timer.

I might change my vote though. SH is fantastic and has time on it's side.

This is making me think ahead to which Gigaton songs I might find myself voting for when we're down to 32, 16, etc. The real 5-star nitty gritty.
I think Dance and Seven O'Clock are the ones I can see winning out over "formative years" nostalgia and voting for over something I've adored for 2+ decades.

I’m surprised this is blowout.
Severed Hand. Probably my favorite PRAMG song.

Severed Hand is great. I wish it weren’t with DotC which is for me among the best Pearl Jam songs, and the winner of Gigaton (with Quick Escape).CopperTom wrote:I’m surprised this is blowout.

Came in to post this verbatim. Severed Hand is probably in the top half of the catalogue for me, but Dance is special.warehouse wrote:severed hand is one of the most underrated pj songs imo. but i still voted for dance of the clairvoyants

Re: 35. Dance of the Clairvoyants vs. Severed Hand
Severed Hand has improved for me over the years, but it's still a good, as opposed to great, song. I probably like Dance even more now than I did back when it came out (and I liked it quite a bit then). It made it a bit tough to get into Gigaton at first, because as much as I liked the album, this song was clearly the biggest achievement coming out of it.
