I had to cut Kyuss. And Portishead. And Arcade Fire.
This was actually quite a heartbreaking exercise.

In all seriousness, and without trying to be provocative, Pearl Jam is nowhere near my top 20. Maybe 10 years ago. But for the last several years there's only been about a dozen Pearl Jam songs I ever want to listen to, total (and even then it's a rare impulse). Looking at these March Madness rounds has really made that clear for me

I don't really talk about PJ because I've upset people in the past by declaring their mediocrity, and we're on a PJ message board so the negativity is better left out.

Pearl Jam is coming up on 20 years without a good album, no way they were making my list. Probably wouldn't even be in my top 100 artists.

Look even though I don't listen to them now, I listened to The Pearl Jammers a whole lot like 10 years ago so get off my back about it.

Re: RM Top 100 Artists (Send me your Top 20 list by MARCH 14
I started on this a few times but ultimately ended up agonizing way more than I ought to have over whether this should have been an exercise dedicated to "all time favorites" or "favorites right now." I couldn't settle on a satisfying compromise so I gave up.
No way PJ wouldn't be on any list of artists that have been most special to me over the course of my whole life. But, of the artists on that list (which gets pretty wishy-washy after the first 12 or 13), they're probably among the 2 or 3 that I'd be least likely to listen to on any given day. They wouldn't be on the list at all if the list was tailored to more recent tastes, say the past 5 years or so.
I still revisit PJ in spurts and enjoy them a lot when I do -- it's foundational, happy-place stuff for me. But I've listened so exhaustively to their catalog that it's hard to take anything new from it. Like a lot of other stuff from that era.

Pumpkins from 1991-1996 is probably the alt-rock-era stuff I'm most likely to reach for on any given day, at this particular point in time anywayEllo Sailor wrote:Coltrane and Pumpkins. This guy fucks.

KD and I share just 1 artist.
I would love to find out whom I share the most with, but I'm sure it would end up being some RMer I hate.
