Whipping is a classic (I still think the Atlanta 94 version might be definitive, but it's not like the Vitalogy version isn't also great)
Having said that, I absolutely adore Acoustic #1. I think it is an intimate, haunting, fractured performance, and it's incompleteness fits the mood of the song perfectly. I don't have a full sense of the lyrics but the snippets that come through end up feeling more powerful for their lack of context. It's no joke one of the pearl jam songs I listen to most often. Eddie sounds so sad and lost and alone but there is still that wellspring of hope and stubborn refusal to surrender. Again, Ten era Eddie is my favorite thing in the world and every time I hear this song I feel like I am discovering something remarkable.
Acoustic #1 gets my vote. I don't expect it to advance, but this is absolutely in my top 5 'pearl jam songs I wish other people cared about as much as I do'. It is amazing

I'm going with Acoustic #1 here, but I appreciate its a losing cause.
No shame losing to Whipping either.

Whipping was the second song I ever saw them play live. We were all like “wtf is this tune? It fucking kicks!” Those Spring ‘94 shows with RVM early into Whipping are just monsters.PHATJ wrote:I really enjoy Acoustic #1, but Whipping just shreds.
