Re: 50. Do the Evolution vs. Dissident
obviously DTE
I am totally bored with the idea of dissident, which is the archytpical pearl jam by numbers song. Until I hear it. Then I remember it's full of great performances, is pretty catchy, and that there aren't really any pearl jam songs that sound like it. It is weird how that happens with that song. I know I'm not alone in thinking that.

DTE today, but on another day I could be convinced that Dissident is the better song

Re: 50. Do the Evolution vs. Dissident
I am unapologetically voting for Dissident. I fully expect it to get hated on in this thread, a position I’ve never understood at all. DTE is a signature song, and I’ve considered it top 5-10 in the past, so I have no problem with it moving on and I’ll probably even vote for it later in the tournament. But I absolutely love Dissident. That intro is quintessential PJ for me. And I think Ed’s vocals on Dissident are some of his best ever. I think he hits his highest recorded note in the whole discography in the final chorus. This is peak Vedder and I love it.

Re: 50. Do the Evolution vs. Dissident
I like Dissident. I can hear a bit of the cheese in that main Mike riff; you can see the music video with him on a cliff with the helicopter shot craning back. But Eddie's vocal on it is wild, and the progression of the song is fairly cool; I think it fares better than some of the similar material from Ten.
But DTE is one of my favorite PJ songs; somehow I'd managed not to ever hear this song before popping in Yield for the first time, even though I came to listen to PJ several years later, and it knocked me out. It's one of the few songs they've done that legitimately surprised me.

Dissident is incredible. Once upon a time it was my favorite song on Vs.
But Do The Evolution is special and it gets my vote this time.

Not surprised at all by the large gap in vote totals, but really hoped Dissident would fare better.

Whereas I've overplayed most early PJ to death, I'm always happy to put on Dissident.
Top tier song for me.

I think I've been mixing Dissident and RVM in my head.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Do the Evolution
It took me a while to come back around on Dissident. I got burned out on it when it made its regular mid-set appearance during the 2000 tour. On the other hand, I have yet to tire of DtE showing up in sets.

I totally get that. But I also try not to let that effect my voting. Because I'm a little tired of a song doesn't make the song worse.stip wrote:i do too, a bitCopperTom wrote:I have such DTE fatigue.
