Hey, I'm just seeing this now. No offense taken! I'm a sad dad so it works for me.Jorge wrote:Or Bill Callahan, for that matter. Or Songs: Ohia.
That entire Sad Folko Dad subgenre is an immediate turnoff for me

Re: Unpopular Music Opinions
Do you really think Shepherd is a sad-o record? I think it's got some of his happiest, most hopeful lyrics on there. He talks about love and marriage in a way that's full of joy. There's plenty of death and shit, sure, but I think especially on that record it's framed in terms of acceptance and wonder, awe even, at the enormity of it all.tragabigzanda wrote:I guess I put Shepherd in a sheepskin vest in there, but otherwise no. I kind of think of him as like Jim Jarmusch with a guitar

Oh, for sure. The great first discovery listening to his music is his sense of humor and wistfullness.tragabigzanda wrote:oh i agree with all of that, I just wouldn't object to Jorge lumping it in with the other stuff based on a cursory listenSimple Torture wrote:Do you really think Shepherd is a sad-o record? I am not going to argue any of these points about Molina. About 40% of his songs are about mythical bird creatures who drink human blood. Enough said.

I would love to know what the selection criteria was for putting Roxy Music and Nickelback on the same compilation.Higgs wrote:You know what happens when you assume don't you? You look like an enormous ass.Mickey wrote:Oh I assumed that was a joke...
