Retrograde is a perfectly fine, if somewhat bland, 3 star song until that wonderful ending. Superblood Wolfmoon, on the other hand, is my favorite song on Gigaton excepting Dance. I love the lyrics, the deceptive song structure, the playful way the music and Eddie's performance dance around each other. So many of these lyrics are either fun to sing (focus on your focusness) or capture that ability he has to make some fairly simple statements feel incredibly profound (love notwithstanding we are each of us fucked is a favorite, but there are a few good ones in here). The Superblood Wolfmoon bridge (or chorus or whatever it is) following the solo is one of the coolest moments on the record, and I never get tired of the way the song explodes out of it into the final verse (and all the cool musical accents underneath the main guitar line - the way it is all rushing to keep up and how each part of the song tries to nudge itself out in front).

It was not love at first sight, but once it hit.

It's going to take much more than ordinary lo-o-ove to lift this uu-u-up
Love this vocal hook. It's a highlight on the album.

Superblood Wolfmoon on the other hand I never seek out and frequently skip. Only one on Gigtaton :/

The verses and chorus of Retrograde highlight all of the deficiencies in Ed's modern voice. The music is pretty generic too. The ending is great, but doesn't save it.

Easy vote for Superblood.

"Retrograde" has risen to be one of my favorite songs on Gigaton, while "Superblood Wolfmoon" is it's nadir. Easy vote here, though it'll probably lose.

Retrograde is an okay track that has some beautiful moments. It sounds unfinished at times though.

SBWM is an absolute mess and cannot be voted for under these circumstances.

Superblood Wolfmoon but not by a lot. SBWM is one of those tracks that keeps getting better. I just love the way this song is unexpected and successfully delivers a mosaic of different things going on.

Retrograde has grown on me considerably. The jangly R.E.M. like delivery that they maybe didn’t quite master on Swallowed Whole gets the proper due here (maybe because it feels more influenced than ripped from the headlines), and that last minute is pure magic.

These are two great tracks but I take SBWM for now.

Hm, I guess I'd lean towards Retrograde though neither of these tracks from Gigaton have stuck with me compared to others on that album.

Retrograde is good, at least 3 stars for me and perhaps with room to grow. But SBWM is beyond that already, and I'm not convinced it doesn't end up a 5-star for me someday.

Don’t have much love for these. Retrograde is probably the worst Gigaton track.
