yeah, i think those guys going to prision marks the ¨there is an escape¨. I loved how sincere it was with the boyfriend being a shitty guy. The overall good guy is almost as dangerous as the fucking rapist. I loved that. And i also loved the ending
Spoiler: show
her death was unexpected and it also made a lot of sense. The guy is a rapist and a killer and at the same time those guys cant seem to understand what they are

I hate using the spoiler tag so I'll just say this has HUGE SPOILER ALERTS:

This is exactly what I mean when I said the fact that it's a revenge fantasy and still ends the way it does is hugely important. The movie has set up that basically every man is bad, or rather that the logic of male violence is so baked into our society that even a vigilante with nothing to lose isn't able to survive it. So yeah, exactly, Bo Burnham is just as bad as the rapist. So what's the escape? How do you make the good guys actually good? Are you going to send all the men to prison? Remember they are only going be held accountable after they literally murder someone who knew in advance that she might be murdered. Which is to say that on the formal level this is a deeply, deeply cynical movie about gendered violence. I fucking loved it and I think it's crazy smart, and we can debate about whether that cynicism tempers its feminist politics or not (I'm kind of claiming it does insofar as its more diagnostic than anything, but I don't know that I really care too much). But I have a hard time seeing a reasonable argument for the idea this movie projects any kind of escape hatch from the kind of violence it wants to stage.

Promising Young Woman reminds me a lot of Nightcrawler but with better direction.

Well, your take is interesting. I didnt see it as every man is bad at all. Her father seems super cool. Alfred Molina´s character has regrets about the mistake he made. Also, the movie shows just how fucking crazy she is. How much of an asshole the principal was about everything. I dont think its only pointing out men.

And yes, i loved that the good ¨ adorkable¨ boyfriend was an asshole.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

the nice guys...gosling and crowe worked well together and there were a lot of funny moments, but the middle section was bogged down a bit by some of the plot elements...finished pretty strong though

Which RMers would you cast in a buddy cop movie
ruddo - the straight man who goes by the book religiously due to his military past
soma - the new hotshot on the force known for his killer tan and chess-like prowess for always knowing the next move
argo - the love interest
b - the villain, drunk on power
knee tunes - the hard *ss captain
wease - voice-over narration
daft twat - the dwarf right hand muscle for b
And they say that a hero could save us

It's the first Miyazaki movie I've seen and I'm definitely interested in seeing more.

:haha:

The DONATE button at the top of the RM website needs to be re-routed to a GoFundMe for this movie.

I could handle voice-over narration.
