Push Me/Pull Me.
I like MYM enough, specially the studio version. It would be super good with an actual production, but its a song i like.

Re: 102. Push Me/Pull Me vs. Mind Your Manners
I fucking love Mind Your Manners. The opening riff is cool, excellent kitchen sink solo, awesome call and response outro, really sharp lyrics, full throated performance by Ed (probably his best on the album) and that wonderful shift to the 'self realized' chorus that feels like it's part of a different song but still fits perfectly. 5 star song for me. I just love it.
Push Me Pull me is fine. Musically interesting (Jeff's part is pretty cool) but Eddie's 'wisdom' lyrics on No Code and Yield have generally aged poorly for me. But even in its prime this was never a favorite.

I agree the solo on MYM rips. But Ed ruins the song in so many ways.

It's definitely Push Me Pull Me, but Mind Your Manners may be my favorite song on Lightning Bolt. The pre-chorus (the "mind your manners" part) is a little blah, but it's a good song, even if the studio version is kind of shitty. I remember the version they did on Colbert a few years back was great.

i agree with Ed being strong on this one. And yes, Mike solo is top notch. Its a great rock song, but i love how weird the studio version of PMPM is..and how good they did the transition live these last couple of tours.

Re: 102. Push Me/Pull Me vs. Mind Your Manners
The title "Mind Your Manners," as well as those actual lyrics in the song, have just always been off-putting to me. To such a degree that I probably don't give enough credit to other things the song does well. It was a huge letdown as a lead single, but I've probably been too hard on it.
Push Me, Pull Me is similar to Bushleaguer for me. Lyrics are less immediately disappointing, but the music isn't quite Bushleaguer-cool. But what really brings it down is the spoken-word verses. I can overlook plenty of clunky lyrics when they're delivered in Ed's singing voice, but, alas. Even with those things I don't love about it this still feels like a song that would be easy for me to overrate, but I'm taking care not to here.

5 days away from home working nightshifts, missing my wife's bday, massive floods and then I'm reminded of that shite song. 7 sec intro is great then it's fucking dire.Higgs wrote:You have a bad weekend 'sleep?LetMeSleep wrote:MYM is another piece of shit.

Any band could have recorded Mind Your Manners. Only Pearl Jam could have recorded PMPM.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Re: 102. Push Me/Pull Me vs. Mind Your Manners
"Push Me, Pull Me" is the best of Pearl Jam's various attempts at using spoken word vocals and, unlike many, I don't find Ed's lyrics all that cringe here. Just some light nihilism that doesn't pretend to be anything too profound. I've always been a fan of the kinda madcap instrumentation and arrangement choices. It's peak weird Pearl Jam.
"Mind Your Manners" is fine. I don't hate it like some people do, but I don't love it like Stip, either. I still think it's one of their more successful punk/metal pastiches.
Vote for "Push Me, Pull Me."
