Re: 104. Got Some vs. Unthought Known
I really like Got Some. I love moments of Unthought Known but it's a song that never fully lives up to its potential, and I think is eclipsed by Lightning Bolt on the next album.
The initial build on Unthought Known (when the piano, etc comes in and the song starts to pick up speed) works really well. I love the gems and rhinestones/see the path cut by the moon and the 'dream the dreams of other men sequences as well. I think it's the nothing bridge that really lets this song down - it's still too much a piece with the verses, and it means the song just kind of levels out.
Got Some is a great firing on all cylinders performance from the band, let down by maybe Eddie's worst studio lyric and that baffling decision to sing the whole song in a squeaky register. Still a lot of fun though
Vote for Got Some

I think you can say that for most of the songs on the S/T -> Lightning Bolt run

Production wise? yeah, sure. Tv wise...not sure. Mind Your Manners sounded awesome...Sirens too. Both Just Breathe and Uk were also good.

It is better suited as an olivia newton john song.

Vedder might as well put on a set of leg warmers and do a foot loose video while performing this song . THAT would make sense

Unthought Known comes off as such a try hard, forced song to me. Very un-PJ

Re: 104. Got Some vs. Unthought Known
Unthought Known is definitely clearly trying to be something special. And it doesn't fulfill the promise of its first half, at least not on the record. But it still almost gets there for me; and, live, it definitely gets there for me.
Got Some, on the other hand, never gets there for me.

I had high expectations for BS after hearing Got Some. Boy was I let down. Still dig Got Some though. UK mostly sucks.

I think that BS and LP are unfairly categorized as sharing the same problems, which they don't in my book.EJ wrote:Yeah, I'd like to hear that too.VinylGuy wrote:i guess the tv performance wasnt as good as it should be. Imagine Got Some produced and mixed by Josh Evans....damn.
Backspacer suffers from about half of the songs completely sucking; the production is fine for what they're doing: Crisp, punchy, pop-rock but still in a Pearl Jam sort of way.
Lightning Bolt's songs are, pound-for-pound, much more conceptually enjoyable. But the production is atrocious.
