What if this song isn't about Ed / wife / family at all? What if the sirens are police sirens, and the speaker is like a serial criminal? What if his partner is continually thinking of leaving but continually forgiving him? What if this is like the flipside of WMA? Like an 8 Mile kind of deal? You better lose yourself in the Sirens.

The fear of being killed by a gang member or taken when the police sirens come looking for me, it goes away when I look into your beautiful face.

'The End' is much easier to stomach as a Pearl Jam song and probably the best song on Backspacer.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
I think when i first got ahold of the leak i kind of hated it. I felt it was a sort of Bon Jovi meets Goo Goo Dolls horror cross over. But after (several) listens I think our boys are alive and well. If you go through a sort of 'check list' of things you'd want to see in a mid -tempo PJ song then the characteristics are all there.Harry Lime wrote:Brain_of_K wrote:*face palm*Harry Lime wrote:I'll take "The End" over this any day.

Earnest lyrics? Check.
Soaring vocal melody? Check.
Euphoric guitar solo? Check.
But, there are somethings that i'm less sure of. The intro is not not great....I really think the 80s stadium rock drums at this point are unnecessary. Also, I'm not keen on the production. Love Boat Captain, for example, is every bit as 'big' a song as this, but due to the differences in production, they come off sounding different.
I am really looking forward to Lightening Bolt, but i do hope that they stop working with O'Brien for a while after that. Fair enough, the 5 band members are getting older and have a different perspective compared to 10 years ago, but i think O'Brien is very guilty of pushing them in the wrong direction.

The other day I used the phrase damned by faint praise.
I like this better than Thumbing My Way, Gone and Come Back.
But why the fuck is this song 6 minutes long?
