I get it pretty badly with coffee on an empty stomach. The spicy foods only bother me if I eat too closely to bed. The middle of the night can be bad.

Re: acid reflux redux
Spicy food doesn't bother me that much, but my days of eating heavy greasy food are mostly over. I have to avoid the red sauce more and more, too.

Tomatoes, more specifically tomato sauce really does me in. I have to elevate the ol' sleep number bed on nights I have pizza.

Re: acid reflux redux
i seem to be past my out of nowhere, likely anxiety induced acid issues - but i'll stay on the omeprazole for a bit longer.
if i had to pick an individual culinary event that escalated the issues, it was a late december deep dish indulgence during a packers game.
i have been able to return to relative dietary normality, but i watch the spice some and i still haven't sipped any coffee since it flared up.

If you're pregnant, steer clear of pop tarts.

Re: acid reflux redux
It waxes and wanes for me, but if I'm in a bad spell (likely anxiety driven) I have to forego coffee and limit beer. Red wine is basically special occasions only at this point, though it goes down easier the more expensive it is. Pizza can be dicey--vodka sauce in particular--but in general it's drink habits more than any particular food that set me off.
I was on an omeprazole script but I let it lapse and now just double up prilosec as needed. For a while I was on busprione for nervous stomach but it made me want to kill myself, so I stopped that. I've also been pilfering my wife's dicyclomine to quiet the spells--works wonders if you can get your hands on it.
