Re: 123. Wasted Reprise vs. Who You Are
WYA is one of the most important tracks this band has done. It opened a door for them that they haven't fully investigated. I remember clearly hearing this for the first time and feeling that they were stepping out of grunge and becoming a classic rock band. It helped that I was getting into Dead Can Dance and some world percussion at the time.

Re: 123. Wasted Reprise vs. Who You Are
Who You Are is the first pearl jam song I had to convince myself that I like, and certainly soured my initial impression of No Code. It was definitely not what I wanted. These days it's probably a top three No Code track for me.
I like the reprise for what it is, but Who You Are is a pretty great track

I like Wasted Reprise, but it's up against too good of a fully fleshed-out song in this case.

Its funny as much as it was clearly a departure at the time i still loved it almost instantly...despite friends around me dropping the band like flies and saying it sucked (they much preferred the Habit b-side).stip wrote:Who You Are is the first pearl jam song I had to convince myself that I like, and certainly soured my initial impression of No Code. Re: 123. Wasted Reprise vs. Who You Are
Like everyone else, Who You Are blew what Pearl Jam could be to me and loosened the shackles. I thought it was a good song but couldn’t for the life of me understand why it was the lead single when I thought the b-side, Habit, would have made a bigger commercial impact. I was 17 and didn’t understand quite why they weren’t going for that.
As the years go on this is one I appreciate more and more. Wasted Reprise should have closed the self-titled album. I have no clue why it is placed where it is. It makes the last few songs on that album feel out of place, like they are not part of the bookends.

Re: 123. Wasted Reprise vs. Who You Are
I had a similar experience with Nothing As It Seems....was in the car waiting for my then gf and flipped stations and it was mid song. At the time it wasn't even on my radar that a new Pearl Jam single was coming. Took about 10 seconds of listening to the middle of the song to clue in it was Pearl Jam. Wasn't initially sure what to make of it but then the last 60 seconds of the song kicked in and i fucking LOVED it.Strat wrote: The first time i heard WYA was the single drop on the radio at the time and i was at the Gym lifting weights for Hockey Summer Camp stuff.

what a song
To this day i have Who You Are and NAIS as 2 of my 3 favorite lead singles (Go being the other...although i should probably add Dance of the Clairvoyants now too).

Who You Are
This tournament has me on a mad PJ binge. No Code is rocketing up my ranking as a result.
