Sorry, by "peasants" I meant us lowly CNN viewers. BUT, you know, recall the response to previous assertion that the lab might be the source (this from Josh Rogin's book):
By the summer of 2020, even Americans were souring on China, polls showed. This was a problem for Democratic leaders, who wanted to take a tougher stance on China but didn’t want to appear to be punishing Beijing, lest that be seen as validating Trump’s efforts to deflect blame for his own failures in dealing with the crisis. They also had concerns that Trump’s anti-China rhetoric was fueling an increase of attacks on Asians and Asian Americans. To show that it was active on China, the Democrat-led House passed several bills on Tibet, the Uighurs and Hong Kong, which all went through with strong bipartisan support. But when the Republicans put forth bills that sought to assign blame for the outbreak to China or call for investigations into the virus’s origins, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ordered her caucus not to cooperate with the Republicans.
When Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) put forward a resolution calling for an investigation into the virus’s origin, Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) was the only Democrat to sign on. His fellow Democrat Judy Chu of California called Moulton and said he was supporting racism. Moulton took his name off the bill.

I'm not sure why Americans, a great many of whom hate our government, can't seem to be critical of a foreign government without hating people who happen to be from and/or in that country.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

The reason it doesn't make any sense is that its largely a media invention. It's not real.
burt, would you be able to list the things that aren't an invention of the media? shouldn't take more than thirty seconds to type out, and'll clear it up for everyone.

The blaming it on Trump definitely seems hopeful on their part. In the places you see Asians getting attacked, there's been friction between them and certain demographics for decades.
But sure, lets go ahead and point the finger at Trump and white supremacy because those are the underlying causes for all the problems in this country.
The whole #AsianHate thing was really weird to watch unfold. The timing was all off, and trying to blame it on MAGA hats was pretty clumsy. Even after the white guy shot up the massage parlors, that narrative doesn't seem to have a lot of impact. Maybe they are just desperate for ratings after Trump and will try anything. A real unforced error IMO.

So if we circle back a bit, the answer to why it wasn’t discussed previously was antitrumpism got in the way of us taking action while it was still possible to find uncompromised evidence.
It’s a very positive development though that CNN is willing to even air the lab leak view now.

A lot of people are freaking out here because numbers are on an UPTICK. It's a seasonal respiratory virus. Public health weirdos are geeked there are so many people who think all the security theater actually works though. Can you imagine if the majority of the population was smart enough to realize they can't do anything to stop this? It'd be mayhem.

No one’s ever claimed it could be stopped, strawman.
