It won't bother me too much unless Ed's voice ever distorts, which happens a couple of times on the leak but hopefully not on the final thing unless it's ever deliberate.stupidmop wrote:I 'blame' him for eddies voice being too loud and sounding like its sitting ontop of the music. perhaps. Thus far I have no real beefs with anything BoB did on this record except perhaps the two fadeouts--some of sirens excess, maybe, but I don't know what's him
I know that doesn't bother everybody though.

it doesn't bother me on the two songs we've heard. I can see it on getaway and some of the other songs, but it doesn't bother me too much. I really need to hear the better sounding copies to know for surestupidmop wrote:I 'blame' him for eddies voice being too loud and sounding like its sitting ontop of the music. I just prefer when eds voice blends in with the music i guess, kind of sits in it and isnt always the loudest part. IDK.
MYM, Getaway LTRP and sirens all end with a bridge or chorus repeated twice. Is this a new thing? or am i only noticing because im looking at these lyrics alot? I can't think of any older songs (of thiers obviously) that do this. It pretty much ruins MYM and LTRP for me because i don't like said choruses and i gotta hear em twice in a row. And it ruins the momentum of the song.
They may have been doing this is forever but i cant really think of any.

Yeah I've noticed. Well, whether you like that or not, I'd rather that happen than the giant noodly guitar solo which does nothing but fill in the space another verse would take up, a la Porch.

I think i'd rather they just end the song
. If they're not gonna use a different verse or something, it feels like they're extending the song for the sake of it.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
That's another thing where I get a hint of BoB's influence. "Add another chorus, all good songs have a repeated chorus, it's a typical convention and means we'll be able to sell it." I agree with you it's particularly noticeable on MYM because that "chorus" is weaker. Sirens to a lesser extent although it can stand it because it's longer. There's a point on Sirens I wish it would end and then it starts up again... ah well.

the bridge/second chorus in MYM is the best part of the song!

That's also my biggest complaint right now.stupidmop wrote:I just prefer when eds voice blends in with the music i guess, kind of sits in it and isnt always the loudest part. IDK.
I think and hope so. We have the poppiest songs right now and Infallible, Pendulum, Yellow Moon and MFS will act as a counter weight to these. Well, it seems that way from the decriptions we have and I might be totally wrong.harmless wrote: I'm wondering if these remaining tracks will drastically alter the record as a whole.

I think the MYM chorus lacks something but I don't know what, therefore it can stay and I like it enough. My favourite parts of the song are the verses, the solo and the call and response outro.

If they wanted a melodic part in MYM it could've been much better; it's just *there*. I guess some people feel like that about the LTRP chorus, which I like quite a bit.stupidmop wrote:If by best you mean worst then yes!stip wrote:the bridge/second chorus in MYM is the best part of the song!

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
I haaate that melody reminds me of blink 182 or sum 41 or some other band with numbers in the name. And it tosses out the anger in the previous part for some kinda hippie 'could be bigger than ourselves' message that i admit i don't get . And for the life of me all i see when i hear 'may not solve a mystery right round the corner' is ed jumping into the mystery machine to catch some badguys.harmless wrote:If they wanted a melodic part in MYM it could've been much better; it's just *there*. And the LTRP one is just weirdly overly happy considering the rest of the song is about some dude drinking himself stupid. I'd like it a little more if i could believe it was purposefully happy because thats what the drunks thinking and he's off his head. But it really sounds like Ed believes the 'feeling is healing' or whatever and again i just hate the actual melody. And the end of the song goes chorus-bridge-chorus-chorus-cool outro, but i've turned the song off before i got to the cool outro.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Whether you like it or not, I think the "solution" (chorus) is set against the "problem" (verse) in both songs. So that contrast in lyrics *and* music is deliberate. If you like it, it sounds clever; if you don't, it... doesn't. But the blues verse goes glam in LTRP (which fits the "red dress" bit -- that's what I'm hearing, not "records"). It goes all "We love to boogie" basically. And I also think of Scooby Doo in that part of MYM, and I'm also reminded of pop-punk. But I think the song tries for that and generally succeeds. The album as a whole isn't really calling for a full-on Brain of J, unfortunately. It's as close to that as possible while still being open to BoB's other audiences.stupidmop wrote:I haaate that melody reminds me of blink 182 or sum 41 or some other band with numbers in the name.
