Yeah Katie Cole that was the name....that Linda girl was a part of Billy´s band on the future embrace tour and also played for the Pumpkins along the years...Ello Sailor wrote:Katie Cole and Sierra Swan. Linda Strawberry (wtf are these names) is still directing their music videos.VinylGuy wrote:Sierra Swan? and Linda dont remember the last name?Ello Sailor wrote:Even Cyr and Ramona are growing on me. It's a played out statement, but the album really is a grower. The backing vocalists are the stars of the show.

Yes she did, and she was fucking awesome on keys + vox. Mina Loy is better than 99% of SP 2.0 songs.

The Future Embrace is one of those albums that will come back eventually. I need time with it.

I don't think Courtney's ever gotten the credit she deserves as a musician, writer and vocalist.
Even now, she seems to inspire bizarre depths of misogynistic anger.

He was also famously a jerk to Hole drummer Patty Schemel, engineering her firing from the band during the Celebrity Skin sessions when he already had 'his guy' on retainer the whole time, waiting for the call to come in.VinylGuy wrote:Yeah, Malibu is amazing. One of the great songs from the 90s for sure. Also, Michael Beinhorn has great stories about the recording...he had quite a year with this album and Mechanical Animals.

yeah, thats Patty´s story. Also, she was super fucked up the whole time, i guess its more of a ¨lets rid of this problem and move on¨ situation were he had to deliver an album in time.Birds in Hell wrote:He was also famously a jerk to Hole drummer Patty Schemel, engineering her firing from the band during the Celebrity Skin sessions when he already had 'his guy' on retainer the whole time, waiting for the call to come in.VinylGuy wrote:Yeah, Malibu is amazing. It's the forcefulness and intransigence of it that is weird. What is your personal experience with her? I don't think you've mentioned that before, just that you want her to die, or you want to punch her in the face, or you take pleasure in her meltdowns, or a bunch of things like thatepilogue wrote:She's a terrible human being who makes inauthentic, derivative, and annoying music that I don't connect with in any level.
Doesn't seem all that weird to me.

She seems to be a very weird and problematic person. Cobain too.

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I think Courtney's personal story is pretty sympathetic, honestly. Just based on her Wikipedia: she was born in California to a burnout hippie father (who allegedly dosed her with LSD as a baby) and mother; she was diagnosed with 'signs of autism' at 9 years old; her mother split and remarried a few times, took Courtney to Oregon, and then to New Zealand, and then abandoned her to the foster system; she floated around the music scene; turned to stripping (and possibly prostitution) to make ends meet; finally starts her own band and finds moderate success (I believe she used to enjoy bragging that Pretty on the Inside was outselling Bleach when she and Kurt first met); marries Kurt and has a child, in their own way establishing the family she never had; rather than deal with his mounting problems (drugs, relationships, lawsuits) like an adult, Kurt decides to shoot himself in (or adjacent to) their family home, leaving a damaged and unstable person to bring up their daughter to the best of her ability.
It's pretty sad, honestly.
All things considered, Frances seems to have turned out pretty well and credit for at least some of that has to go to Courtney.

(reading Spenno post)
"Individuals are often victims of their upbringing and circumstances beyond their control. We should try to be compassionate, and take these factors into consideration in order to better understand why they do the things they do"
(yes very good, this is reasonable, I agree with this)
"also Kurt Cobain DECIDED to SHOOT HIMSELF like a PATHETIC CHILD"
(oh god)

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
I have no interest in her death or in punching her (I can't imagine wishing physical violence of any kind on her; gross), nor do I revel in her meltdowns (though, I'd be lying if I said schadenfreude wasn't a real thing). I'm sure I've made over the top posts about her in the past because I used to think that kind of hyperbole was funny for some reason. Or because I was playing my part in the "look how mad Courtney Love makes Joey" bit. But at 41 years old, it's embarrassing to think I could have ever posted shit like that.Jorge wrote:It's the forcefulness and intransigence of it that is weird.
