I think class is a relatively under-examined element of 90s indie rock culture.

I don’t think it’s an accident that almost all of those who managed to navigate that period without going broke or a battling a debilitating drug addiction happened to come from stable (even affluent) middle class backgrounds.

She seemed to go out of her way to help Lanegan and there didn’t appear to be anything in it for her she can’t be all bad. He’d probably be dead without her.

One thing I got from the various documentaries and behind-the-scenes stuff about all these grunge figures (Pearl Jam especially included), is that they are all very uninteresting and mediocre outside of the music. When the most interesting figure to come out of the era is Billy Corgan, something is wrong.
