FTFY ;)
You know, I should listen to those other 9 albums soon, before this one is released. I know I liked them, but haven't listened to them in ages.

groetjes,
Mirella :)

Further to the earlier discussion about RM's influence on individual's album experiences, if I hadn't heard everyone bitch about Eddie's Aw-huhs on Just Breathe I wouldn't even have noticed. It doesn't ruin the song for me now, but it does knock it down a notch.

Same here. A soon as it was pointed out I couldn't stop noticing it

Perfect example! It was something different that he tried... I'd never have noticed. What drives me nuts is him trying something and people seemingly grading it and applying it to some overall scorecard of Ed's voice. It's exhausting sometimes.

That doesn't bother me at all, but for a lot of backspacer i think ed was singing in a range he can't do, or least that doesn't sound that pleasing, but i like just breathe and the aw huhs are just fine

He tried something that didn't really work, according to a lot of people. If nobody voiced any opinions on these things we may as well shut the internet down.

Wow. The bottom of the barrel is really being scraped if the Aw-huhs count as Ed trying "something different."

At least that one was understated and worked 100% without being cheesy.

The yeah yeah yeahs and aw huhs weren't new things though. They were things he had used before in contexts where they worked, and on Backspacer it was like he just tossed them out there and expected them to carry weight on their own. And they just seemed ridiculous (well, the aw huhs for sure...the yeah yeah yeahs don't bother me nearly as much).

Four years ago, in a recording studio somewhere...

"There are lots of aw huhs and yeah yeah yeahs at the end of Alive. People love that song. What if we put them on the new singles, guys? People will go nuts!"

"I don't know Ed. Do you think maybe they work in Alive because they're unhinged bursts of emotion at the climactic point of a crushingly powerful piece of music?"

"No, Stone. I don't. They work because aw huhs and yeah yeah yeahs are just great. Go put on your reindeer sweater."

I think they're both kind of jarring. But fair point about them not being new. I was watching Unplugged earlier and was reminded he was already yeah yeahing.

I like to imagine them all sat in a log cabin with cups of hot cocoa, wearing the sweaters that Eddie knitted them as they thrash out new ideas.

I wonder if "We must get BoB on board again someday" was one of them.

"Hey, Jeff..."

"Yeah Stone?"

"Is it just me, or were the sweaters Ed knitted for us so much better from like 1993-2005?"

"Oh man, don't get me started. It's like since he got married he doesn't care about his sweater knitting anymore."

"RIP Ed."

He probably burst in to "wacky neighbour" sitcom applause.
