Animal's great; as a compact piece of adrenaline, it's hard to beat - but Rival is the better song, so I'm going with that.

These are both such great songs.

Animal it is, but it's not easy.

Pearl Jam often likes to lead with these hard punk-ish numbers early in albums before they roll out some of the more introspective or thought provoking gems. It’s as if this is to remind everyone up front that they effin’ rock and that no one can do it quite like them. Animal is the central lynchpin of that approach. It’s one of the best they got for this.

Rival is a great song with so many cool things going on, including Stone’s dogs, but Rival can’t quite match that.
