Anyway, doing a little research on this guitar and it looks like a decent acoustic in good condition. It's a classical guitar but does not have nylon strings on it currently. It's a 30 year old guitar and I'd like to take good care of it. Where do I begin?

pretty much identical to this one.

Put nylons back on. Classical guitars are built for nylon strings. Plus you'll get finger picking chops that will transfer well.

Hopefully all that string tension hasn't compromised the bridge.

Yea, might not hurt to bring in for a check up/tune up. Put some nylon strings on there ( i personally dont care for nylon strings but work with what you got) and have some fun!

I agree that is begging for nylon strings. That said I want absolutely no part in finger picking, not my thing.

Probably because it requires too much skill

I've never had the patience to memorize finger picking patterns but i really really wish I had when i was younger.

Also, i sliced my thumb pad open years ago and have some nerve damage. So, even when i do try and learn these days - My thumb wears out really quickly.

So, then i just go back to guitar wankery and punk rock playing.

Whatever.

So I'm a better guitar player than most of you. Seems legit.

Well bluegrass chops are on another plane. I was thinking more 'Big Love' by Lindsay Buckingham.

I could fake my way through that but my thumb would definitely fatigue rather quickly :(

ha!

i can fingerpick a bit, but i've lost some of that skill over the years. My guitar teacher when i was 15 was a classical player so he impressed that skill on me.

Just picked up the Ibanez ts9dx to replace my maxon overdrive.

the maxon started having some volume loss. I use it as a slight overdrive/coloring/boost to my main overdrive pedal.

I had a ts9dx back when i was much younger. I love the Ts9/808 sound but want the versatility.

So for now my OD/distortion pedals on my board are:

Fulltone OCD GE, Sparkle Boost, Ts9DX, Shannon Distortion (Dude from the pit message board built these YEARS ago)

I put some nylons on there. They're so comfortable.

I learned a new skill set of tying the strings to the bridge, but I'm not close to perfecting it. Aimed for this but got sloppy on the bass strings.

I'm used to strings with stops on the bridge.
