Anyone can play guitar

I'm getting back into strumming, but I was never very good to begin with. I learned the basic chords they teach you in guitar lessons and a few intros I gleaned from downloading tabs back in the 90s. That's it. I know music theory from high school band (trumpet) and can read sheet music, but I really don't know anything about what notes are where on a guitar.

I would love a good resource for lessons or tutorials. I'm sure there's a lot more out there now than what was available when I was playing back in the day. Where to begin?

Oh yeah, this probably matters. The guitar I have now is an Alvarez 5202 classical with nylon strings. I don't exactly plan to shred. Just want to pluck at some chords and make my kiddo laugh or go to sleep, depending on the song.

YouTube is filled with great tutorials for all skill levels. It's basically how I'm learning to play bass, either guided tutorials or just eyeballing playthroughs. I wish I had that resource when I was first learning how to play the guitar.

Yeah, I taught myself Everyone Hides today by watching that Wilco Colbert performance. What do you recommend for finger exercises? I feel my biggest weakness is awkwardness and clumsy fingering. That thing Tweedy does on the D chord looks easy, but it's pretty advanced for me at this point.

That's no way to learn the why of something, friend. I need something sustainable. Something I can build on. Tabs are muscle memory!

You dont want to learn theory right off the bat. learn chords, learn songs. It will fall into place.

Practice all day long for a month switching between them , back and forth and all around

Then play Long Road, if you want to. Or 1,000 other songs

P.s. don't laugh at my old-ass chord chart. I got it from my dad, that's his handwriting on it. They are my circles though for you , and I filled in D for you because the face of it got ripped off

You will learn the chords to your favorite songs. You will learn to change positions from chords to chords, you will learn why these chords are used.

Trust me, learning songs is the way to go.

You will also be learning strumming patters, how to strum, when to strum, rhythm. This will all come as you learn songs on the guitar of your favorite songs and this is how you learn to play guitar.
