I enjoy conversing with you, BI.
I think this is a false equivalency even if NPR is “liberal” and/or “woke”. Why am I wrong?
I want to hear more about this. Which NPR show most closely resembles Rush or Hannity? Do their audiences speak in unison on certain current topics as well? How influential is Audie Cornish compared to those guys?BurtReynolds wrote:I did that once. Bouncing between conservative radio doing stale Rush takes and NPR saying everything is institutional racism is a great way to understand how braindead the vast majority of talk/news radio listeners are, across the "vast" political spectrum from woke left to neocon right.Rob wrote:I've been tuning in to AM radio every day at noon the last couple of months (just the first 20-30 min) because, for reasons I don't understand, I need to see how long The Rush Limbaugh show still features Rush Limbaugh, even though he's been dead a while. Today's first segment featured a rather spirited 10 min Rush rant - from like 11-12 years ago... explaining to people how terrible Obama is and how people should be really scared. The temps don't seem to do much but preach Rush's holy doctrine. This was (maybe still is?) the largest media audience in the country.

Re: Systemic / Institutional / Societal Racism
You can actually tell the difference between the shows on NPR? I couldn't tell you a name. They are indistinguishable, though I don't listen enough to hear the differences. Obviously, the style of pandering is more suited to their audience and so will be different in that regard to conservative radio, but the content is no less bullshit and the propaganda no less insidious.Rob wrote:I enjoy conversing with you, BI.

Oh wait I know All Things Considered, the title of which is the most comically dishonest thing since FOXnews' slogan "fair and balanced".

I haven't listened to NPR since I was in highschool, but my Dad listens to it. Whenever I hear him listening to it it sounds more like he's listening to a parody.

Selling the menthol ban as a measure to promote racial health equity is quite a take. The White Man's Burden is never finished!

“Mentholated brands of tobacco products have been heavily marketed to racial minorities resulting in disproportionate use. More than 85% of mentholated brand users are Black, nearly 47% are Hispanic, 38% are Asian, nearly 29% are White, according to the CDC.”BurtReynolds wrote:Selling the menthol ban as a measure to promote racial health equity is quite a take. Certainly there won't be a black market for these illicit menthols and it can't possibly wind up giving police more discretion to stop the purchase/sale of a good that's apparently used overwhelmingly by racial minorities. At least we know that police wouldn't ever choose to spend their time actually policing the sale of something as insignificant as individual cigarettes, so I'm sure this will be fine, too.

I supposed a Black menthol smoker is less likely to die from a cop killing than he or she is from cancer.

What do you mean by this? I did a search and it seems like Biden revoked Trump’s travel ban but has some temporary restrictions on countries with high rates of Covid (plus Iran?). Great Britain & Ireland were part of it, as was Brazil. Trump targeted Muslim countries.Bammer wrote:Trump = Travel restrictions from certain foreign countries = racist

i believe he's comparing trump's ban on travel from china, pre-pandemic when a few cases of covid had been detected stateside, to biden's ban on travel from india today, over a year into the pandemic when over 32 million cases of covid have been detected stateside.
