The media weaponized this virus to stop Trump and now this is the result, dumbass politicians risking restarting the pandemic in order to own the libs. Clown world.
Also, did the media weaponize the virus to stop Trump? Would seem like a waste of time considering all those press conferences he chose to do where he showed America he has no clue what he's doing. I mean, the man seems to have honestly believed that he gave a gift to science with his wonderful idea for a bleach-based therapy. Seems long past the time where any of this can be blamed on the media. These people don't even watch "the media".

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
The thing about Trump and covid that baffles me the most...and I might be misremembering so let me know if I'm wrong about the basic facts here...But initially wasn't Trump in favor of getting a vaccine? He mocked masks and everything else, but he announced Operation Warp Speed as a way to quickly get a vaccine. For the life of me I don't understand why he wasn't pushing the FDA to announce some kind of approval before the election. And beyond that, why hasn't he been pounding his chest claiming victory and responsibility for providing a vaccine so quickly? It's such an obvious move to take credit for the vaccine (in a closely contested election no less!), it's dumbfounding to me that not only did he not do that, he seemed to embrace skepticism of the vaccine and has distanced himself from the thing that provides the most hope for getting us back to normality even though he wouldn't have been out of line to claim credit for that thing.
The rise and spread of the anti-vax right in the last 6-12 months has been almost unbelievable to watch.
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe he has claimed responsibility for the vaccine since leaving office but thankfully I haven't heard a word he's said in three months, so I'm open to that possibility, but seeing as his stans aren't exactly clamoring for the vaccine I'm guessing that their daddy hasn't claimed it's a good thing.

4/5 that all makes sense.
Maybe ol’ Drumpf switched gears when he realized his base was the majority of folks who are anti-covid-vax and wanted to cling to their votes? Who the hell knows.

He was promising a vaccine before election day and I assume the FDA told him to fuck off about approving it early. If I recall correctly he accused the FDA of deliberately withholding approval until after the election to sabotage him (because he's a narcissist and everything has to be about him)

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
he took credit for the vaccine - at least how quickly it was created - but he was already obsessed with disavowing the election results by that point, and consolidating the far right of his voter base, which we're seeing now is anti-vax. he also wanted to sabotage the next administration by doing nothing around the vaccine, which always seemed like a big tell that he knew he'd lost.4/5 wrote:The thing about Trump and covid that baffles me the most...and I might be misremembering so let me know if I'm wrong about the basic facts here...But initially wasn't Trump in favor of getting a vaccine? Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Given the number of people still wanting to wait because of "rushed science," he might have doomed the whole country if he'd convinced the FDA to approve it faster.
Oh, and I've heard people in the Tuckerverse working very hard to give Trump credit for vaccine successes. I'm not sure if Trump himself has said anything. His administration certainly deserves some credit, but it was wickedly close to tanking into the ground when Biden came in. Maybe Trump would have had a fix if he'd stayed in office, but nothing about his presidency indicates that he would have.

Interesting, thanks for the replies. Yeah, the timing of the vaccine with the rigged election stuff blurs the lines of everything. I'd be curious to see polling from last summer on people's receptiveness to a potential vaccine and see what kind of partisan divide there was or wasn't back then. But rigged election/vaccine conspiracies seem to be a package deal at this point.

No, actually. Exposure to media has a major effect on people's perceptions of the world. A few pages back there is a video of of CNN employee literally bragging about it.Rob wrote:"Hey everyone, look at these moronic things the media made us do!" Here's more on the media and COVID coverage:
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/us-media- ... 19-news/#x
And even the left-leaning Hill admits to this (burying the anti-Trump bit, but somehow that slipped through):
https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/ ... t-covid-19
So... and you may want to sit down for this... we can recognize that the left side can do something bad and not be endorsing the right side in doing so. We can simultaneously say that CNN shit on Trump on purpose without saying Trump did much of anything good over his entire term. There is nothing wrong with that. It's only one RMer who is so down the rabbit hole they are incapable seeing anything other than the right/left paradigm at this point.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
It is comical to assign political motivations to the media. They are motivated by money.
The results are all sorts of political shennanigans, but the motivation is never anything other than money.

Also, if Trump is the worst president ever, or in a really long time, you might imagine the media coverage reflects it.

Oh I don't know. In many ways, yes. Maybe I should rephrase this and say if we elect a clown for president, the media coverage might reflect that.JuanHamm wrote:Is Trump really worse than W Bush or Reagan?

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
The second graph there is kinda hilarious with Republicans not being worried that the CDC and FDA are too politicized. But both of those polls put the specter of politics directly into the question so they end up being red team/blue team signaling.McParadigm wrote:September 11, 2020:4/5 wrote:Interesting, thanks for the replies. I found this article from the Washington Post in September that's interesting. It includes quotes from Democrats including Kamala Harris and the Senate candidate from NC both expressing a degree of skepticism over the vaccine (Harris' concern was the politicization worry your Time article mentioned) but what's astounding is the conservative response basically going nuts that Democrats are anti-vaxxers and want lockdowns forever.
Within the same article it contains polling from the summer showing that even then Republicans were much more skeptical of the vaccine than Democrats (33% of Republicans saying they wouldn't take the vaccine to 14% of Democrats). It cites a second poll, shown below:

So maybe Trump just ended up following the lead of his base instead of the other way around?

CDC is currently telling the states how to prepare for Pfizer dropping down to age 12. They expect an EUA in about 2 weeks.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
Trump's base are conspiracy believing morons and he had to cater to them. Not much more to it than that.
He did the same thing by saying the election is rigged. Many of his voters decided he was right and just didn't vote.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. IMO his handling of covid led Biden to an easy win. Hard to spin the bullshit machine when people actually start dying.
