CopperTom, just wanna be clear that I picked the Donkey Kong "Country" franchise. Dunno if all Donkey Kong games fall under that umbrella. I'll take it though.

I would say more than just Country would fall under the umbrella. Not Donkey Konga, Jungle Beat or Diddy Kong Racing. Just about everything else though. I'm sure what's in a franchise will vary from user to user.

I just don't want people thinking solely of the old school DK games when they read Donkey Kong on my team. Country is the real heavy hitter.

I just don't want people thinking solely of the old school DK games when they read Donkey Kong on my team. Country is the real heavy hitter.

And DK64. That one is still beloved too. Only 6 core games in the past 27 years. An underserved franchise for sure.

My feelings would be old school donkey kong games, the original and donkey kong junior, are a separate franchise from DKC.

Yeah those old DK games could pretty much just as easily be classified as Mario games.

I view those early entries as the start of the evolution of the franchise.

If anything you could argue some of those handheld games that have a puzzle focus are it's own franchise.

Yeah the originals are more mario than DKC, considering who the protagonist is. DKC flipping it so DK is the good guy starts a new franchise, imo.
