Re: Franchise+ Tourney Round 1. Trag v. Ruddo
Console: The GameCube is a great console with great exclusives. I've been filling in the gaps in my GameCube library lately- only Skies of Arcadia to go (for now). Surprisingly, most of my GameCube library has been beaten. NES started my journey. I still have very positive memories of Super Mario 3, TMNT 2, Kirby and RC Pro Am (to name a few). Edge: Trag
Controller: I never played an Atari 2600 as a kid. One of my friends had a 7800, but I think the controller is different. I did play a 2600 joystick on the Atari Flashback. I've never played an Adaptive Controller, but I think it's a truly wonderful product that Microsoft designed. Edge: Trag
Accessory: Man, the Super Scope sucked. Bad design, no must play games. I've never played Guitar Hero and likely never will. Guitar Hero (and Rock Band) were both surprisingly successful, however. Edge: Ruddo
Franchise: Super Mario has been awesome since the 80s. A few speedbumps - SMW2, Sunshine - but there's still something special about playing a Mario game. Resident Evil has it's ups and downs more than most franchises drafted in this tournament. RE4 is spectacular. One of the best games of its generation. I've never played a Pokemon game but the one coming soon to the Switch looks good. I never quite understood the love for Call of Duty, but I don't play online either. I've only played Ghosts and WW2. Maybe someday I'll pick up Cold War too. I'm a fan of the Kirby games. Kirby's Adventure is spectacular. Too bad it was released towards the very end of the NES lifecycle after most of its players migrated to a SNES or Genesis. If it came out earlier in it's lifecycle it would be absolutely revered. Like legendary. The newer entries seem to be aimed a younger audience. Love Tecmo Bowl, but nothing after the original is worth a damn. [Random CopperTom Opinion: Bo Jackson is the single most over-powered video game character ever] Star Fox 64 is the best rail-shooter not named Panzer Dragoon. Nothing else in the franchise is better than a 6/10.
Embarassing enough, I've never beaten a Final Fantasy game. I played FFXI for hundreds of hours. FF3/6 and FF7 are games that I hope to beat someday. Both tLoU entries are great with tLoU2 being the most mature and heavy game that I've ever played. Only 2 games in the franchise though. I used to play sports game a lot. My favorite Madden entry was probably Madden 98 for the Saturn. Recent entries don't seem well respected. I acknowledge Tetris's greatness... as a game, not a franchise. Portal is great and thoroughly unique and original. Only 2 games in the franchise though. I've never played a Guitar Hero game and likely never will. Tony Hawk 1 & 2 were awesome, but I haven't given the franchise a thought in about 2 decades
