Nobody thinks the data on flu deaths could be a little noisy due to covid being the world's muse for the last year and a half?

Flu surveillance still happens. And sure, some people may have been sick and decided not to go to the doctor, but flu hospitalizes and kills people every year. Those people can't hide in their houses and hope they feel better.verb_to_trust wrote:Nobody thinks the data on flu deaths could be a little noisy due to covid being the world's muse for the last year and a half?

I think it's reasonable to normalize symptomatic people wearing masks on the subway or in other high density, low air circulation public spaces. It's not like we are going to have fewer respiratory diseases in the future.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
I think the pandemic would have to run rampant in the U.S. a lot longer than this for American culture to shift on masks.
I can maybe see a slight shift in specific regions, like more public transportation riders in NYC wearing masks or something.
Would be nice but I'll be surprised if it happens.

Subway in New York would be okay. For the vast majority of the country it would be overkill though.

yeah i don't see masks catching on en masse; i guess they're too annoying.
what would be good to see is a shift in the show up for work even if i'm sick mindset in america. WFH becoming more normalized could help with this some.

I got these blue light glasses since I’m on so many zoom calls now and half the time I put the fucking mask on for a call instead of the glasses, or the glasses to go down the hall to take a piss rather than the mask. So fkn annoying.spike wrote:yeah i don't see masks catching on en masse; i guess they're too annoying.

I still want to know why 4/5's school district banned face shields.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That is more of a capitalism problem though. The people that could work from home while sick already have jobs with benefits and sick leave. The people who have to come into work sick haven't really seen any change in that. They still mostly don't have benefits or a way to stay home and not lose a bunch of money.spike wrote:yeah i don't see masks catching on en masse; i guess they're too annoying.

I looked up the policy just for you, B.B wrote:I still want to know why 4/5's school district banned face shields.
Can children or staff wear face shields instead of a face covering?
No. Face shields are less effective than commercial and cloth face coverings and may not be used by any persons to comply with Emergency Policy 2170, except under the following limited circumstances:
Face shields may be worn when used in addition to an approved face covering to protect eyes, as well.
Medical Certification: A face shield may be worn in lieu of other approved face coverings by persons who are observing physical distancing and present school officials with a certification from a health care provider that the person has a medical, physical or psychological contraindication that prevents the person from being able to safely wear an approved face covering; or,
Instruction: Face shields may be used by school District employees in situations where physical distancing is observed and it is important for students to see how the instructor pronounces words (e.g., English Learners, early childhood instruction, speech therapy, foreign language, etc.) and/or an instructor may wear a clear mask (which is not a face shield) when it is important for a student to observe the instructor’s mouth.

The bold is exactly what I was getting at though I have never seen a clear mask that wasn't my imagination. I often have hearing impaired individuals on my tours with most being excellent lip readers.4/5 wrote:I looked up the policy just for you, B.B wrote:I still want to know why 4/5's school district banned face shields.

First jab of Astrazenica for me.
Evidently you Yanks have too much since many of you won't get vaccinated at all. Please ship it to me. I'll take care of it.

I think people just don't want an inferior vaccine here. We can give the junk brand away.

Re: Anybody want a Corona?
That’s our Prime Minister for you. He had responsibility for three things during Covid and completely failed at two of them (securing the borders and vaccine acquisition) and cash bailout (which he implemented with zero oversight which directly resulted in overdose deaths and fraud).verb_to_trust wrote:I think people just don't want an inferior vaccine here. Trump at least excelled on the vaccine front.
