It's probably more of a compromised season than last year, given the scheduling quirks, health and safety protocol roster effects, and injuries to major players.

I mean 7 being in danger of missing the playoffs and 10 making it is absurd. I can get on board with an 8/9 play-in at most, but this set up is stupid.

I can see this logic, but it's not like 7 seeds make the second round often. They would still need to lose twice to miss out on the playoff. The west is so close anyway, it's not like there will be more than a handful of games separating the 8-10 seeds.

I'm all for making these final few weeks of the season more interesting. They'll tweak the format, but keeping the play-in is a great way to mix up the stale opening two weeks of the playoffs.

I think the pressure of being a top 6 seed is good for the league. Players are obviously embarrassed by the idea of getting bounced early. Discomfort makes for good drama.

Without the Lakers at full strength a dark horse contender could emerge pretty easily. Somewhere, Thibs is locked away in an office. Grinding.

I see the Lakers as boom or total bust. Either this is all just noise and LeBron plays at like 90% the rest of the season in which case I think only the Clippers have a solid chance to beat them. Or they are what they've been for the last 6 weeks in which case they either lose the play-in or lose in 5 in the first round.

I think one and dones. 7v8 and 9 v 10. Winner of 7/8 gets in and then the loser of 7/8 plays the winner of 9/10 and the winner of that game gets in.
