I think some folks were turned off by the little cameo in the video. I wasn't a fan of this song or alright at first, but they grew on me. There is absolutely no need to have a song like buckle up on this record. It doesn't work at all and doesn't have place really on this record.
That video was so cringe. Couldn't even make it to the cameo before turning it off.

Uh, Buckle Up is one of the highlights of this album, you savages.

But yeah, Ive only ever made it through this album once without falling asleep during the last three songs. Pleasantly, though.

Excuse me? It is not delusional to have an opinion that is different from yours, and this is absolutely a 5-star album for me.

Right? It isn't just 2 3 week sessions thrown together with the help of a Producer that lost the plot 20 years ago. They spent time and actually crafted a great album.

I didn't like the sequencing initially, but once I just let the album be and left my expectations and nostalgia out of the equation, a beautiful & damn fine soundscape emerged. And it wasn't the same vibe - it feels like the band's trying to do their legacy justice.

I'd change my rating to 4 stars because it won't pass Vitalogy, Binaural or Riot Act as my top 3. It'd been 14 years since a PJ album went into rotation and didnt get relegated to *Bootleg Only Status* after a dozen listens.

I wouldn't call myself or anyone else *delusional* though. I got past criticizing other people's tastes decades ago lol.

For me - Gigaton's absolutely their best album since Riot Act. I've never understood people that don't grasp that album's genius.

S/T was a decent album. The only 2 that really can't be in the company of other great rock albums are Backspacer & Lightning Bolt. Looking back on it now, that entire era was really just like 1 big party or PJ20 Extended.

And I will agree with the syllable issue - that's definitely going to be tough live.

Buckle Up is genius and I dont watch videos

If you made me pick between Buckle Up and the entire rest of the record, I'd pick Buckle Up every time.

SBWM might be a bottom five Pearl Jam song outside of Lightning Bolt though.

It's hard to say that any album is truly flawless, but I couldn't change anything about Gigaton. It's exactly what I needed at exactly the right time. Love it.

for me, buckle up is probably my favorite song on the album next to who ever said (which itself is the best opener since brain of j).

retrograde is pretty good, and i really like it being the penultimate song on the album.

but man, the album is really brought down by the slog of never destination, take the long way, and comes then goes (which is a more boring version of come back).

I love Never Destination. Buckle Up is nice, but 4 slower songs to end the album is, to me, the slog that is the flaw in this album. I like Retrograde a lot, but CTG is too long, and I don't care much for River Cross. Either way, I've listened to this album a lot, but for me it's usually the first 7-8 songs and then I don't feel like hearing the slow ending.

And I'm with you on Who Ever Said, it's my favorite on this album. Tracks 1-4 are probably my favorite 4.

I love everything about this album. 5 stars for sure. My only complaint is that at 57 minutes long, I wish there was more. :hooray:

Whoa- I absolutely adore Come Back, and I see almost no similarities here. Come Back is a waltz with very distinct parts and a crackly guitar solo. Comes Then Goes is a Chris Cornell-style repetitive long burner folk song with just Ed and a guitar as its bones.

i hate them both. they're both slogs. but comes then goes is (i can't believe it's even possible) actually more boring.

Despite our differences in opinion, I guess I would have to agree that strictly speaking, Comes Then Goes is "more boring" than Come Back.

See, for me, it's ND - BU that drags. CTG gets shit back on track for a run of final three that makes the previous three well worth the slog.

I don't think Gigaton has any "major" flaws, but it's so good in so many other areas that it can't help but highlight Ed's desperate (hopefully final) grasp at straws in the form of one spritzy punker (SBWM) and a few Backpacker-y seconds on WES; it's absolutely not a dealbreaker here so I'm not even complaining, I just think he's got a chance to shed these instincts now that he's had his fun, and I hope he continues to take things more seriously in future

it's "when will my husband return from the war?" vs. "Chris Cornell is gone"
