I saw them when they played the States in April, and they played all arenas/large venues. The places were pretty full then. It seems they're playing large venues in smaller markets, which may explain the lack of attendance.

They play here in Chicago on Monday at the Auditorium Theatre, so I'm really looking forward to that one (especially after they played the UIC Pavilion (the worse venue in Chicago) the last time).

JPJ arena is on the UVA campus, i figured that alone would help shows sell really well, but a guy we met at the show said he went to a NIN show there a couple of years ago and it had less people then last nights show did. college kids dont know what they are missing

Agreed. I bet if you asked 100 people on the UVA campus before they announced the Sigur Ros show who Sigur Ros is, 95 would have no idea.

The people who were around us, and the few I was eavesdropping on, it sounded like most people drove about an hour to see them.

CT, we always choose the area for a stopover heading further south and stay in C'ville a few times a year for longer weekends.

The thousand or so people there were all into it, and I think the band realized it. Jonsi didn't talk too much but played lights out. The industrial feel to some of their newer songs really translated well live. Each song was like its own little show. Sometimes I would be into watching the band and sometimes I would catch myself staring at the video screen as I was locked into the music. This is definitely one show I'll never forget. I took my brother with me who is an avid concert goer but is in to more modern, "alternative rock". He's listened to one Sigur Ros album and enjoyed it. No. But I saw girls who were. But sitting there watching that show definitely digs deep into your feelings and I can see how it would cause people to cry.

But seriously, though, it's a unique concert experience. Fewer "woo" guys than any other public event I've ever been too (especially in the Boston area), with everyone sitting in rapt attention to every single note. No tears, but close to a sublime experience (so more fear than anything else).
