Imagine being in a building and an explosion going off which means you have about a minute to get out before the building is hit and destroyed completely. I can’t actually imagine the panic of that. They very often don’t even fire those knock knock missiles. they haven’t even bothered to the last few nights in Gaza

You can get away with war crimes of there’s nobody there to report it.
This is the thread where they try explain it away saying that building was a legit target.

That reads like a stage mom explaining why she helped her daughter cheat in the talent contest after getting caught, not an official military department statement.

Yeah, but remember who actually needs the explaining.

Hamas needs a site with reliable power and high speed global telecom and it's not like Israel is going to let them build one... so of course they will use that location. Of course they will. And journalists will cover for them in exchange for access and the progressive-requisite appearance of 'solidarity' (i.e. like the WHO in China).

Same shit has been going on for decades:

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2014/11/how-the-media-makes-the-israel-story/383262/
In Gaza, this goes from being a curious detail of press psychology to a major deficiency. Hamas’s strategy is to provoke a response from Israel by attacking from behind the cover of Palestinian civilians, thus drawing Israeli strikes that kill those civilians, and then to have the casualties filmed by one of the world’s largest press contingents, with the understanding that the resulting outrage abroad will blunt Israel’s response. This is a ruthless strategy, and an effective one. It is predicated on the cooperation of journalists. One of the reasons it works is because of the reflex I mentioned. If you report that Hamas has a strategy based on co-opting the media, this raises several difficult questions, like, What exactly is the relationship between the media and Hamas? And has this relationship corrupted the media? It is easier just to leave the other photographers out of the frame and let the picture tell the story: Here are dead people, and Israel killed them.

In previous rounds of Gaza fighting, Hamas learned that international coverage from the territory could be molded to its needs, a lesson it would implement in this summer’s war. Most of the press work in Gaza is done by local fixers, translators, and reporters, people who would understandably not dare cross Hamas, making it only rarely necessary for the group to threaten a Westerner. The organization’s armed forces could be made to disappear. The press could be trusted to play its role in the Hamas script, instead of reporting that there was such a script. Hamas strategy did not exist, according to Hamas—or, as reporters would say, was “not the story.” There was no Hamas charter blaming Jews for centuries of perfidy, or calling for their murder; this was not the story. The rockets falling on Israeli cities were quite harmless; they were not the story either.

Hamas understood that journalists would not only accept as fact the Hamas-reported civilian death toll—relayed through the UN or through something called the “Gaza Health Ministry,” an office controlled by Hamas—but would make those numbers the center of coverage. Hamas understood that reporters could be intimidated when necessary and that they would not report the intimidation; Western news organizations tend to see no ethical imperative to inform readers of the restrictions shaping their coverage in repressive states or other dangerous areas. In the war’s aftermath, the NGO-UN-media alliance could be depended upon to unleash the organs of the international community on Israel, and to leave the jihadist group alone.

Is there even a point in having a UN or UN Security Council if it’s going to be constantly blocked from action by the US?

The left hasn’t suddenly ‘adopted’ Palestine as a cause Bi. It might appear that way from an American perspective given the circumstances. Objections to Israel’s actions in Palestine weren’t just suddenly the trend of the week. It goes back decades, globally. Unfair to reduce it to a ‘left’ issue flavour of the week and a bit ignorant of the facts if I’m honest.

Never seen it this close up. If the first one doesn’t kill you, What are your chances of even getting out of a building even that small?

Allegedly they've used Hellfire missiles in an airburst mode for the roof knocking, but I can't find any documentation on that functionality. Alternatively dud munitions. I guess that may work if everything is pretty heavy duty concrete/ masonry?

Not sure this qualifies as a trustworthy news source:

I think I've found some better timeline info on this particular flair up. Will post later.

12.April: First day of Ramadan: "The recent nightly clashes began at the start of Ramadan, when Israeli police placed barriers outside the Old City's Damascus Gate, a popular gathering place after the evening prayers during the holy month when Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. They later removed the barriers, but then protests escalated over the threatened eviction of dozens of Palestinian families from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah."

28.April: Israel’s Netanyahu scrambles to form a government to prevent a fifth election in two years

29.April: Abbas delays Palestinian elections; Hamas slams ‘coup’. "President Mahmoud Abbas announced early Friday that the first Palestinian elections in 15 years will be delayed, citing a dispute with Israel to call off a vote in which his fractured Fatah party was expected to suffer another embarrassing defeat to the Hamas militant group." [The dispute is over allowing Palestinians in East Jerusalem to vote.] "Hamas does not recognize Israel’s right to exist and has fought three wars with it since seizing control of Gaza. It has also carried out scores of attacks over the past three decades that have killed hundreds of Israeli civilians."

06.May(?): Israeli courts postpone decision on evictions of Palestinian families in Sheik Jarrah. The issue is: "These Arab families jumped in when Jews were forcibly driven from their homes in 1948. When Israel returned in 1967, these families might have expected to be evicted — but were not. Those to whom Jordan had given titles found that Israel would respect those titles. Those who had no title found that Israel respected their leases, so long as they themselves abided by the terms of the leases. What then happens when some of the leases are up, some of the tenants refuse to pay rent, or some of the properties are occupied not by tenants but by squatters? That is what’s before Israel’s Supreme Court, in a case involving several Palestinian families who could ultimately be evicted."

08.May: Hundreds hurt as Palestinians protest evictions in Jerusalem. Palestinian protesters retreat into Al Aqsa Mosque after hours of violence with Israeli police.

09.May-10.May: Jerusalem Day. "An AP photographer at the scene said that early Monday morning that protesters had barricaded gates to the walled compound with wooden boards and scrap metal. Sometime after 7. a.m., clashes erupted, with those inside throwing stones at police deployed outside. Police reportedly entered the compound, firing tear gas, rubber-coated steel pellets and stun grenades. At some point, about 400 people, both young protesters and older worshippers, were inside the carpeted Al-Aqsa Mosque. Police fired tear gas and stun grenades into the mosque. Police said protesters hurled stones at officers and onto an adjoining roadway near the Western Wall, where thousands of Israeli Jews had gathered to pray."

So the storming of the Mosque was a response to protestors who had been hiding in the building stoning police and Israelis there to pray.

This video and others similar give the false impression of Israelis cheering the burning of the Al Aqsa Mosque. The fire is a burning tree on the Temple Mount not the Mosque as most of the tweets claimed, set by poorly constructed fireworks from the protestors inside the compound.

I think this should catch everyone up on what actually happened.

He was pretty directly responding to your post about mascots, but okay.

You seem very convinced everyone is unempathetic, cynical, and terrified of being canceled. Just something I've noticed with my bad reading.

Nate you might not want to dig yourself too far in on the side of the guy who said “and the Jews wonder why nobody likes them” on the old board.

Not really siding with dime, just sick of this "no one really cares about anything" bullshit that seems to be pushed a lot here.
