i finished a first listen, and i really like it. I agree that the last couple of songs are kinda meh, but overall its a very cool album. Love the mix of soul, funk, 70s sounds it has...it even has some Pink Floyd elements to it.

Not so sure about the lyrics tough, there are some really cringe moments were Annie is just trying too much to sell this 70s NY vibe she has been talking about.

And its too early to tell were this one fits in her career...The Self Titled one was a favorite and it kinda faded away for me, so maybe this one might be on a second spot for me.

well see.

Also, Mark Giuliana fucking rules

I'm loving Somebody Like Me. Those drums are great.

Actually the drums are a highlight throughout the album

There are actually a few drummers, i thought Giuliana was playing here because i saw him on SNL but the one track the drums blew me away is the second track with drums provided by Sam KS

This album makes me want to move into a seedy apartment in NY and develop a substance abuse problem

Bummed that my vinyl, pre-ordered from the St. V website, won't arrive until Wednesday. Only heard the first single once. Waiting to hear this thing for real on wax.

It's probably too soon, but I would rank it as follows

-Strange Mercy
-S/T
-Masseduction
-Daddy's Home / Actor (tied)
-Love this giant
-Marry me

If we take out the interludes, this is where my current track ranking stands after only three full listens:

The Melting of the Sun
Somebody Like Me
Down
Down and Out Downtown
Daddy's Home
My Baby Wants a Baby
Live in the Dream
...At The Holiday Party
The Laughing Man
Pay Your Way in Pain
Candy Darling

Also, My Baby Wants a Baby is clearly riffing on/referencing/ripping off Sheena Easton, right? That's not just me?
