Season 1 for me, lads. Poot, Body, Wallace and D'Angelo. The chess scene is one of my favourites.

Also:
Bunk: I'm just a humble motherfucker with a big-ass dick.
Freamon: You give yourself too much credit.
Bunk: Okay then. I ain't that humble.

Chud, was your post in honor of Prop Joe's (Robert F. Chew)'s passing?

I really like that this show left you with a bad taste in your mouth.
Spoiler: show
Sure, there was some closure with the different story lines but they didn't go all hollywood with the good guys always winning or some grand piece of karmic justice going on. Marlo gets off (ok, but he's going to lose all his money to the lawyers ala stringer), Clay Davis is acquitted. The cops get away with making up the serial killer but not completely. It kept it fairly realistic. On the same note of realism. I like that last scene where the remaining coop members are meeting and Slim kills Joe's nephew. It was a great piece of balance with Slim being able to get revenge for the kid getting Joe killed, but at the same time they made the point of the game being the game, it moves on, it doesn't matter who lives and dies. And the old dude's reaction of how the hell are they going to get the rest of the money was just perfect.

Also, I was very happy with the way Omar died. I kind of saw it coming in that manner, and I'm glad I wasn't wrong. I would have been pissed if it turned into some grand firefight. It ended the way he needed to end. Some kid walks up and pops him in the side of the head, and it's over.

and don't for get the element of it where even though Omar was such a huge part of the story, such a figure in the game, the newspaper didn't even mention his death... because despite all the problems of "the game" most of the general public don't give a shit about it.

Spoiler: show
When I first watched, I was pissed that Omar went down that way. I realized after though that it was actually a good way to do it and true to the series.
Chud, would you agree that this is the greatest television series of all time?

I've heard some say that Breaking Bad is superior. I suppose It is more entertaining for entertainment's sake, but it probably has less to say as to what is broken or failing in our society.

Breaking Bad is a great show... but not even on the same planet as The Wire.

Well you're wrong then. Walt and Jesse and Mike are great, hell I'll even say Hank... everyone else? Not so much. The Wire doesnt have a Skylar, or A Tuko or a Walt jr. For as great as Breaking Bad is, it has a lot of Margaret Schroeders.

There's The Wire, and then there is everything else. There are shows I absolutely love, but nothing I've ever seen even comes close to approaching The Wire. It's more than just a show, it's an amazing piece of literature.

I'm with you outside of my one obvious exception.
