Song of the Moment: Sirens

Late to the party, but Stip's review is very similar to my reaction. Last night under the Colorado sky, the 4th and 5th listens to this track hit me in a major way.

As far as lyrical content my thought is that he has crafted these lyrics based on a few seconds in the middle of the night. He wakes to the sounds of sirens reaches for his lovers hand. Hears her breathe, appreciates that they're ok. Whatever dream the sirens had steered him into wasn't real. The fear of loosing her is real though. He looks at her face in the little bit of light there is in the dark room, feels safe and drifts back to sleep.

This isn't a track I ever would have asked for from Pearl Jam, but I haven't felt this way from Pearl Jam track in a long time.

This morning I heard the following on XM's Octane:

Breaking Benjamin - I Will Not Bow
Pearl Jam - Sirens
Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King

One of these things does not fit.



That being said, it was nice to hear on the radio and like Sir Stippleton, I enjoyed singing a-long to it. I still give it a 3/5, but I'd rather hear Sirens on the radio than most anything off of Riot Act or Backspacer.

Are you sure one of them doesn't fit, or is it just that the other two made you want to claw your ears off?

well sirens still wouldn't fit if, presumably, it did not make him want to claw his ears off.

To me it's less 80s rock ballad and more early-aughts alternative rock radio ballad.

oh, early 2000s. I read that as 90s. That could be. I don't think I'd know most of the songs that it would be compared to, so I went 80s

It's kind of false gimmickry, to just lift a chorus from one place and paste it again later on. It's something Linkin Park would do.

If that MYM "chorus" vocal is repeated, that might be lending to the repetitiveness of the song for people.

absolutely... i said that in another thread (or maybe this thread)... i don't get any 80's feeling from this song. it seems more like a late 90's/early 2000's track (3 doors down, or lifehouse, or whatever)..

Who did that horrible Arms Of A Angel song? I like Sirens but it definitely edges towards the cliff of a song like that.
