The punchline:
This pretty much defines where we are in 'Merka right now.It is understandable that authorities, including public health experts and journalists, responded to the crisis with initial confusion. But they erred on the side of certainty when they ought to have erred on the side of uncertainty. And the false certainty they embraced at the outset of 2020 hardened into a dogma that they did not question for far too long.
The lab-leak hypothesis may well turn out to be wrong. But that won’t make any of these reports right. The origins of COVID-19 were always hazy, and China’s lack of transparency created significant doubt. Reporters looked at the uncertainty and fell back on an impulse to straightforwardly call out racist lies, even though the evidence to call it lies was quite threadbare.
It is true that most of these outlets were more faithful to the truth than Trump, whose gusher of lies vastly exceeded whatever false claims trickled out of the liberal media. But Trump is not the right standard for journalists. And those who chose to follow the ethos of moral clarity, at the expense of objectivity, misled their audiences.

Appreciate it fellas. My final software development gating exercise at MegaCorp is this week, so once that's done I wont be around as much to shit on B. Hopefully there is another...Rob wrote:B wrote:I don't disagree with that.JuanHamm wrote:B wrote:I'll vote that. I don't even really care about the Wuhan Lab Theory. BI3 is a very valuable member of N&D. Whether you agree or disagree it would be hard to argue that his opinions aren't well researched and thought out. A lot more so than most of us (myself included)

My current work keeps me tied to my computer. When COVID work is done, I'll post less because my normal job is to go places and do things.Rob wrote:Is BI saying his project at work is ending therefore he won’t be around as much to post? Makes me sad but also, ?

My employer makes everyone go through a trial period and testing scenarios to make sure they have the skills they claim to have. This is to detect resume inflation and nepotism or "hiring your bros". Once you pass that, the real work begins, so less RM for me.

You’re probably all unaware but former advisor to Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings is quite literally demolishing his former boss and the UK government. Fucking all of them under the bus A over the British governments handling of covid. and how. If you Haven’t seen it, you should look it up.

maybe there will be a silver lining to covid, in that when vaccines become required to attend school, and all the anti-vaxxers refuse, they will all move to mexico
