Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

i loved this when it came out. I tried watching it like ten years ago and was like "Fuck me this is slow and quiet."

i don't know if it's actually bad. it's sort of an odd duck. it's got ricky jay, it's got mamet's partner/wife who is deliciously cloying. and it is SO slow and quiet. to use the parlance of the young, it's a whole mood.

Campbell Scott is just such a weird actor. He conveys nothing, but he does it perfectly. He's like a dead star around which a director orbits his more lively planets.

agreed. thought about comments about kubrick casting cruise & kidman -- that they were vapid enough to play the leads in Eyes Wide Shut -- as i watched scott act.
