Yep. And Shane Black’s best.
yeah, i think so. still really love Kiss Kiss
It’s really good too, but the snarky VO feels a bit dated now.
lots of snark and voice-over in TNG, but i think i agree. as a framing device it seems more intrusive in Kiss Kiss

Edward Scissorhands with wife last night. She'd never seen it. She loved it. It's really good. Tim Burton was indeed once great. I guess he just ran out of ideas.

I don't understand why the girl who claimed she loved him, or the mother who showed so much care for him never once visited him once he retreated to his mansion. I think the old lady improvised the whole demented story in reply to her granddaughter's innocent question "where does snow come from?", which is pretty hilarious. Or she had a lifelong affair with him and didn't want to reveal that info to her granddaughter.

please, this is embarrassing...its not good for RM at all. Im worried.
Is not liking Scorsese movies some new edgelord thing?
Nah. I've never been a big fan.

Look, I exaggerate about him a lot, mostly to mess with TVG, especially when he's dishing it out. But I think we all know that's all in good fun.

Scorsese isn't a hack. I just don't think he's the masterful genius that others seem to think he is. Like Anders, I think he has some good films but many (most that I've seen) are flawed. And I get that I'm in a very small minority but I really do not like Goodfellas. It just does nothing for me. Ditto The Departed (though, it is better than Goodfellas). I think that's really the only "edgy" thing about my Scorsese takes. But it's not an affect. It's an honest opinion. I'm not trying to be shocking or contrarian or trolly.

But Taxi Driver, Last Temptation of Christ, Gangs of New York, Raging Bull, these are all good to get films. And there's a lot I still haven't seen.
yeah, i know its for fun
Well, I thought you did. My apologies. I won't bring it up again.

I also think Scorsese is generally good, but very overrated.

Wrath of Man

This is fantastic. Much better than the usual cash grab revenge flick. I'm a Guy Ritchie fan, and this isn't typical Guy Ritchie. I think he's more than just style over substance.

Scott Eastwood is as dreamy as his old man.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

No car chases, thank god. The last act has some problems but the set up was pretty enjoyable.

Very solid concept but cheesy AF. Really not a well made movie at all. But a good concept.

In the Heights. Lin Manuel Miranda gets to celebrate a domestic terrorist and win Emmys and whatnot.

Maybe we get a test case of things going the other direction if Mamet ever has a new play out while simultaneously proclaiming that Kaczynski was on to something.

Amadeus

It’s a bit quirky, but also magnificent in parts.

Finished all movies up through the 1984 movies on my list of movies to see now. Was a good year.

Watched Bo Burnham's Inside special on Netflix. Really lives up to the hype.
